The Extreme Is Gone, But Still Is Great: My Case For The NEW ECW!
I have wanted to see ECW back for many years back in 2006. I wanted to see that extreme style of wrestling that the WWE and other promotions just did not bring. Sure we saw Hardcore matches, but nothing like what we saw in ECW.
Then Vince McMahon had the brilliant idea of bringing back ECW, the best thing he could have done at the time. We saw all the old ECW guys like RVD, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, and others come out.
Sure we saw them before, but not in that environment of ECW for a long time. We saw it for about a year, maybe not that long. Many got angry that we did not see any good extreme wrestling, including me.
Then all the sudden that changed in the beginning of 2008 and on. The WWE started bringing in new talent. People like Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston, Ricky Ortiz, Jack Swagger, Tyson Kidd, and even ECW Diva Tiffany.
Tiffany by the way just got her first WWE win this past week on RAW. So congrats to her.
Anyway, these talented men and...woman made a nice impact in the WWE while on ECW.
Evan Bourne brought in ratings single-handedly. We saw his first match on ECW and immediately crowds were astonished with him and loved him from the beginning to the end of the match.
Kofi Kingston had a similar style to Bourne, not as much of a high flyer, but still was one. He had a nice style of wrestling not many of us saw. He ended up having a reign as Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champion.
Which meant he was successful with the crowd, and I can't find a person out there that does not like him myself.
Jack Swagger has made a huge impact, he lost his winning streak since arriving in the WWE just a few months back.
In his time he has won the ECW Championship, and he won it from a huge face at the time in Matt Hardy. During his reign he also beat Finley and Christian to retain.
The fact is that all of these superstars have been successful or are having success right now.
And we see them on ECW, or saw them get their start there. What the WWE is doing is showing us the future. These men and women of ECW are going to be some of the biggest stars in the company.
Many already have titles or are working their way to getting one. It will only be a matter of time before Bourne gets the ECW Title.
I could see Jack Swagger getting big on another show too. He has already gotten big on ECW so I could see him as a WWE or World Heavyweight Champion in the future easily.
And where did we see him first? ECW of course.
To me, there is nothing like seeing a superstar from the beginning of his career to when he hits it big. I saw this with Matt and Jeff Hardy and that made Jeff's WWE Title win even bigger for me.
Because I saw both at the beginning of their career and when they moved up in the company it got me excited as a fan.
I have also seen John Cena, Edge, Randy Orton, Christian, and Kurt Angle in the beginnings of their careers.
And to see where they are now is just amazing for me as a fan.
Now think if they put all of these men on the same show and you saw them all from the beginning of their careers and see them move up in the company to where they are now.
We could easily see the next Randy Orton or Edge here.
We could see another John Cena come out of here too.
The fact is that ECW shows us the future, and even though it lacks the extreme that we know and love now. We still have to love it for what we are seeing in it right now.
