Jay Cutler Heads to Chicago Bears for Kyle Orton and Two First Rounders

Old AccountApr 2, 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen...

It is official. The long and tiring fiasco of Jay Cutler ended just a few short hours ago after the disgruntled QB was dealt to the Chicago Bears for Kyle Orton and two first-round picks in 2009 and 2010.

Yes, you have heard me correctly, the Chicago Bears! The last team you would have thought would make a move like this.

The Bears haven't done much in many offseasons the last couple of seasons, and with missing the playoffs for two straight seasons now, a change needed to be made.

Just two days after announcing Cutler will be traded, the Broncos quickly found a good package for the quarterback. A QB who can run the system head coach Josh McDaniels wants to operate, as well as stocking on draft picks in the next two drafts.

This opens up many options for the Broncos.

Yet, this is the worse day for Jets' fans.

Besides not getting the franchise quarterback they wanted, it could also be a possibility of not getting Mark Sanchez in this year's draft if he slips past the top 10 and into the hands of the Broncos.

Now the question is: Who won the deal?

From my perspective, the Broncos got the exact deal they wanted, and at the end of the day, they went home happy. After last year's Patriots' season, McDaniels has proven that he does not need a top of the line quarterback in order to be successful.

Denver can now fill two voids in the draft; one most likely being on defense, maybe even two on the defensive side if they don't select a QB.

Now: Did the Bears give up too much?

Did they give up more then enough for a player who "quit" on his team, and has shown no qualities to be a leader?

It shall be interesting to see how he performs with the Chicago Bears.

Certainly he will have a defense he can rely on, but too many holes at the WR and RB spot for my taste.

Maybe a stud WR can be found in the later rounds for the Bears in this upcoming draft.

Finally, I must give the congrats to the Bears' front office for making the move.

They were tired of the QB controversy in Chicago each and every season, and were able to get themselves a talented one with hopes of being a franchise player.

Has Cutler learned from this experience?

Will his attitude change for the better, with hopes of heading to the playoffs next year?

As my buddy Terrell Owens once said: "Get your popcorn ready, as it is going to be a show in the Windy City."
