Manchester City Transfers: 5 Players Roberto Mancini Can Still Target in January
Manchester City continue to go through the January transfer window without having made changes to their first team.
You can pick up any paper or search almost any football website to find the club linked to players like Edinson Cavani of Napoli or Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao, but lets be honest with ourselves for a bit, are Manchester City going to sign either of those players before January 13, 2013? Probably not.
That being said with only seven days left before the end of the window, the club will have to move fast to get anything done.
However, outside of two players that have been linked with the club, there are three additional players that could be potential deals that would be much more likely sooner rather than later.
Stevan Jovetic
1 of 5Fiorentina attacker Stevan Jovetic was believed to have rejected a move to Manchester City in late August of 2012, according to ESPN.
The Express continue to see the player linked with a move to City this January.
However, unless the Citizens can manage to sell Mario Balotelli, then they are unlikely to have the leverage to sign Jovetic as he will not want to move to a club where he has to fight for a place with four other strikers.
Javier Mascherano
2 of 5Manchester City have been chasing AS Roma's Daniele De Rossi for the better part of two seasons now.
In all honesty the Roman-born Wolves' legend is unlikely to be taking his leave from the Eternal City anytime soon.
However, with part of the reasoning for targeting De Rossi is for his physical presence in the middle of the park, City could make a play for Barcelona midfielder and makeshift defender Javier Mascherano.
The Argentine is likely to have a slightly less expensive transfer fee as he is not a club legend with Barcelona, and he is a Premier League veteran having spent time with Liverpool during their most recent times of dominant form between 2007-09.
Luka Modric
3 of 5Luka Modric's move to Real Madrid was the talk of the summer in many ways as the saga between Tottenham and the Spanish giants was back and forth for months.
However, after finally getting their man, Madrid really does not look to be the best fit for the Croatian international. Despite a fair amount of pitch time, he continues to struggle to fit into the team.
After missing out of Wesley Sneijder, City could make a late play for Modric if they are truly desperate for a new playmaking central midfielder.
Sejad Salihovic
4 of 5One dynamic of the Citizens' game that could use a boost is their efficiency from set pieces. A move for TSG Hoffenheim attacking midfielder Sejad Salihovic could be a solid and smart, as well as "cost effective pickup in City terms."
However, the recent injury he sustained earlier this week could hamper any move being made for him by the English Premier League side.
Angelo Ogbonna
5 of 5Italian club Torino has a hot property in 24-year-old central defender Angelo Ogbonna. Despite Manchester United being the main club from the northern English city linked to the player, Manchester City are in true need of one thing. Central defenders.
Joleon Lescott has been phased out while Matija Nastasic is still improving with many years of growth ahead of him.
Ogbonna could be a huge signing as he is still affordable and has more time to be molded into a star defender in the English Premier League.
