Fernardo Gago For Cesc Fabregas? You're Having a Laugh Wenger

Callum D'SouzaApr 2, 2009

Arsene Wenger is said to be highly interested in Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago, if Cesc Fabregas was to leave North London.

Gago, a hard midfielder with impressive strength and passing ability, has performed well this season, attracting a large amount of attention from English clubs.

The Madrid man is no doubt talented and would fit well into Arsenal's youthful squad, but to even think about swapping Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas for Fernando Gago is insane.

The Spanish international has already commented that he has no intention of leaving Arsenal for Madrid.

Fabregas, who is said to be very close to returning from a niggling injury that has kept him out of play since December, is a huge part of the Arsenal squad, and it would be mad to let their influential captain leave.

For all I care, Real Madrid can have "trophy wanting" Robin van Persie for £20 million plus Gago.

Personally, I would love to see Fernando Gago at Arsenal. He is likely to find himself warming Madrid's bench next season, thanks to Lassana Diarra and Xabi Alonso, if Real Madrid get their way.

Gago is the type of player Arsenal desperately need—a hard hitting defender yet elegant passer. He would also relish playing under Arsene Wenger and the quick play of the tender Gunners.

For all Gago's traits, Cesc Fabregas is the last person Arsenal want to see leaving. He is close to returning and will provide a huge lift for Arsenal, which could drive them through the FA cup semifinals, the Champions League quarters, and well into the top four.

Arsene Wenger surely knows the importance of Cesc Fabregas to Arsenal, both as a player and an example to follow for the up and coming youngsters like Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

Arsene Wenger must make sure Fabregas stays at Arsenal for the rest of the time his time as manager.

No doubt Gago would be a great addition to Arsenal's squad, but at the moment the Gunners don't need him, and they do need Cesc Fabregas.
