Anderson Silva, What's Next?

tyler griggsApr 1, 2009

Anderson Silva, what can I say except for one of if not the best pound for pound fighters in all of MMA and I'm not the only one to say so. But what's next? He's done it all. He's won the Title in his Middleweight division, he's stepped up to the plate and fought at the next weight class, and just plain and simple just totally dominated this sport. But the question return's, what is next?

Well if he wins his fight at UFC 97 Redemption against Thales Leites, he will have defended his title for the fifth time. Another question I'll bring up is who will be next in line for the Middle-weight division. I'm not sure in that field.

What I myself would like to see is him to step up and challenge the champion in the Light-Heavyweight division, which at the moment is Rashad Evans. Well I'll point out the facts in my eyes. Silva is fast, is a great striker, and has great submission skills and ground control.

Rashad Evans, on the other hand, is no question fast, a great striker, has a wrestling background but doesn't use it often. He has not won by submission to my knowledge, so Silva would have an advantage there. But no offense to Evans, but I would see Silva winning that fight.

But another question that comes up is "does he want the Light-Heavyweight belt?" That comes with a whole other load of pressure. He would have to fight twice as much and perform twice as hard to keep both of his belts. Yes a lot of people would love to see this dream fight I speak of. But it all comes back down to what Silva wants to do. He has the skills to do whatever he wants, but as I said it's what he wants.

As always I wish my best luck to both fighters. Good luck to Leites at this great opportunity and good luck to Silva at retaining his title and his promising future.
