San Diego Chargers Hire Ken Whisenhunt as New Offensive Coordinator

The offseason keeps getting better for the San Diego Chargers front office.

First, former head coach Norv Turner and general manager A.J. Smith were finally handed their walking papers and shown the front door.

Next, Chargers president Dean Spanos hires former Indianapolis Colts executive Tom Telesco as general manager.

Then comes the hiring of former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy as the 15th head coach in Chargers history.

Now comes the icing on the cake!

Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt has been hired as the Chargers offensive coordinator according to a report from ESPN.com.

Whisenhunt had been a candidate for the Chargers' head coaching vacancy and was interviewed by the team last Friday.

In his six seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Whisenhunt accumulated a 49-53 record that included two trips to the postseason (4-2).

He guided the Cardinals to two straight NFC West titles and the team's only Super Bowl appearance (Super Bowl XLIII). 

Whisenhunt also served as the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator from 2004 to 2006 in which he won a world championship.

With Whisenhunt now on board, you have to wonder if new head coach Mike McCoy has other plans for the Chargers coaching staff.
