Manchester United Transfer News: Buzz on Wesley Sneijder, Wilfried Zaha and More

Tim DanielsJan 17, 2013

Manchester United used a tremendous first half of the season to move seven points clear of rival Manchester City in the Premier League. Given that strong run of form, it's not a surprise that the transfer window has been pretty quiet at Old Trafford.

That being said, Sir Alex Ferguson is always on the lookout for ways to improve the Red Devils and that's why they remain a key player in the transfer market, even if they aren't making many moves. There's still a chance they make an impact over the final two weeks.

With that in mind, let's take a look at some of the latest updates involving players linked to United and analyze what it could mean for the EPL leaders.

Wesley Sneijder

United getting linked to Sneijder is nothing new. It's been going on for a couple of years. The newest wave of reports comes as the playmaking midfielder is looking for a new home after getting phased out at Inter Milan.

Thom Drake of the Daily Mail reports Galatasaray are still waiting on a decision from Sneijder, who's still weighing his other options with hopes of finding a Premier League home. He states United and Tottenham are two interested clubs.

While theย reports are probably starting to sound like a broken record to United supporters, their team is still an optimal fit for the elite distributor. Now would be a perfect time to take a run at him to bolster the squad for the second half of the season.

Wilfried Zaha

Few players have been the focus of more transfer talk since the January window opened than Zaha. The Crystal Palace star is generating a lot of interest around the Premier League as clubs hope to land the 20-year-old striker before his value skyrockets.

After months of links, United chief executive David Gill finally confirmed that the club has interest in Zaha, according to Miguel Delaney of ESPN. He does note, however, that any potential move wouldn't be completed until the summer.

Although the Red Devils already feature plenty of depth up front, led by Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez, Zaha would be a terrific addition with an eye toward the future. He's a raw talent, but definitely possesses rare potential.

Ezequiel Garay

Even though Garay hasn't received nearly as much attention as Sneijder or Zaha, the Benfica defender would have no problem making an impact at Old Trafford. The former Real Madrid player represents Argentina at the international level.

United have been tracking Garay throughout the campaign and are now weighing a move for the ยฃ15 million-rated centre-back, reports Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail. Juventus are also interested in the talented defender.

The Red Devils currently rely on Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who are 34 and 31 respectively, to lead the defensive effort. Garay is just 26 and would be ready to inherit some of the burden placed on those two veterans.
