Left Turn Louie: Furnuhs Invade Texas

Jabber HeadApr 1, 2009

The legendary rock band, Foreigner (pronounced “Furnuh” in Texas) will headline the pre-race show Sunday prior to the Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Immediately following that, Jeff Gordon will proceed to lose his 9,369th consecutive race.

A friend of mine, who is a NASCAR afficionado, predicts that in 2009, Gordon will become the first driver in history to win the Sprint Cup title without winning a race. I think if that happens, then the OKC Thunder, LA Clippers, and Memphis Grizzlies should petition the NBA for a similar allowance.

But back to the “Furnuhs.”

I think it’s most rad that these rockers will perform. The track folks even allowed lead singer, Kelly Hansen to take a spin around the track. Now, I don’t know if that was such a great idea, as the thought of an old-ass 70’s rocker going in circles at 170 mph is kind of scary to me. Most of those guys do well to just walk in a circle without throwing up or seeing pink aliens.

What I wonder though, is how Texans will react to hearing that a “furnuh” will be at their race track.

We all know that Texans aren’t exactly “pro-furnuh”…which to them is anyone not from Texas (I was born in El Paso, by the way). Well, that excludes Tony Romo, because his chick is from Texas…by way of Mars.

Anyway, it should be a great race. I predict that Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will win. I figure that once he hears that some “furnuhs” will be there, he’ll be so pissed off that he’ll cause even more other cars to crash than he usually does.

Who’s your choice?

P.S. Did you know that “race car” spelled backwards is “race car”? And yalls thought I didn’t know anything about NASCAR. HAH!
