A week after ogling Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron's girlfriend Katherine Webb during last week's national championship game, Musburger may have closed out Monday's broadcast by saying sideline reporter Holly Rowe "was really smokin' tonight."

There are those who believe that the 73-year-old announcer was referring to the game in his comments, although given the fact that the game was a 61-44 rout for the Jayhawks, in which they never led by fewer than 13 points in the second half, and neither team shot better than 40 percent from the floor (Baylor shot 23 percent, and Kansas shot 37 percent on the night), that's a little bit hard to believe.

Monday night's game was once again a display of No. 4 Kansas' stifling defense. The Jayhawks had as many blocks (13) as the Bears had field goals. But it is getting harder and harder for those who defend Musburger to come to his defense.

The commotion after Musburger's words toward Webb in the BCS title game prompted ESPN to formally issue an apology via Twitter (per the Los Angeles Times). Worse, it became a side story when what people should have really been focusing on was the pure dominance Alabama displayed en route to a 42-14 victory over Notre Dame for the college football national championship.

UPDATE: Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 10:49 a.m. ET

ESPN's Josh Krulewitz has the latest on Brent Musburger's comments from last night:

Simply stated: "Brent said the word 'it.' We are moving on."

---End of Update---

I'm all for colorful commentary, but, seriously, did Musburger really just say that about his colleague, Rowe? Some people never learn.

What are your thoughts?
