Jacksonville Jaguars Rumors: Keith Armstrong to Be Interviewed for Head Coach

Atlanta Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong is reportedly being lined up for an interview to fill the vacant head coaching position with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ian Rapoport appeared on NFL Network on Saturday and said that Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff had been singing Armstrong's praises as of late (via Kareem Copeland of NFL.com). Reportedly, David Caldwell, who was announced as the new Jacksonville GM Thursday afternoon, listened.

"Thomas Dimitroff, who was Caldwell's former boss, has been harping on him how good special teams coaches can be," Rapoport said on NFL GameDay. "We'll see if Caldwell listens."

Armstrong has more than 19 years of coaching experience in the NFL, with 16 of them coming at the special teams coordinator position. He was with the Chicago Bears from 1997-2000, with the Miami Dolphins from 2001-2007 and joined Atlanta in 2008.

Some may say this is Jacksonville's way of satisfying the Rooney Rule, mandating teams to interview at least one minority candidate for vacant head coaching positions. However, the Jaguars have already interviewed defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, so it would seem as though Armstrong is a viable candidate.

If Armstrong joins Jacksonville, he'll be the fourth head coach in the franchise's history. According to Pro Football Talk, Armstrong has already interviewed with Kansas City and Chicago for the same position.
