Minnesota Vikings' Seven Round Mock Draft (with Trades): Updated Mar. 30
Lately I've been sitting on my bed pondering what the Vikings plans are for the 2009 draft.
A thought popped into my head that I have never added the possibility of trades being factored into the selections for certain teams.
Please note this: Many of you will skip the intro and go right to the picks. If you do, please don't comment me saying "that trade never happened! What are you smoking kid!?!?"
I will make you feel embarrassed afterwards. The trades are based simply on possibilities.
Please enjoy!
Trade: Minnesota trades first round selection (No. 22 overall and No. 221 overall ) to the New England Patriots for (No. 34 overall, No. 89 overall, and No. 199 overall)
First selection No. 34- Duke Robinson, Offensive Tackle, Oklahoma
The trade I have listed above sounds pretty preposterous, but when you consider it, it could be a likely trade.
New England has three second-round picks. They would likely trade one of them and another pick to get back into the first round.
Minnesota needs a right tackle desperately. Most of the wide receivers will be gone by this point. I can see Minnesota getting a quality one within the next one or two picks.
Duke Robinson is a 6'5", 330-pound monster from the University of Oklahoma. He would be a quality pick early in the second round.
Second selection No. 54- Brian Robiskie, Wide Receiver, Ohio State
Brian Robiskie is one of the more under-rated players in the entire draft.
I watched him intently during the combine. He ran a 4.59 40, and jumped 37.5" on the vertical jump. These numbers aren't too fascinating, but most of the time the combine for receivers are irrelevant.
Troy Williamson ran one of the fastest 40's at the 2004 combine. We all know what happened to that bust.
Brian Robiskie is one a player that should not be over-looked. He has incredible potential and looks like a future pro-bowler.
Third selection No. 86- Keenan Lewis, Cornerback, Oregon State
I've said it many times before...The Vikings need a future starting cornerback.
Antoine Winfield had one of the better seasons of his career, but he is almost 32 years old and is nearing the end of his career.
I have not heard much about Keenan Lewis. To me, he sounds like a diamond in the rough.
I've seen many mocks having him going in the late-second round. I, feel like he will be over-looked by some of the bigger-name cornerbacks.
Fourth selection No. 89- Dorell Scott, Defensive Tackle, Clemson
I don't fully support the idea of getting a defensive tackle, especially after drafting Letroy Guion in the fifth round last year.
Dorell Scott is too good to pass up on. His size is very intimidating. Dorell is 6'4", 320 pounds.
He would easily be able to replace Pat Williams, once he retires.
The Vikings need depth on the defensive line. Jimmy Kennedy doesn't scare any offensive lineman on quarterback in the league. Mark my words.
Fourth round pick was traded to the Houston Texans for Quarterback Sage Rosenfels
Fifth selection No. 158- Victor Butler, Outside Linebacker, Oregon State
This pick makes sense to me for one main reason. Keenan Lewis went to the same school.
Minnesota needs to address their depth at linebacker. They had to bring in several rejects to replace E.J. Henderson when he went down.
Ben Leber is a good player, but he likely won't be starting after this year. He is beginning to slow down, and will be 31 years old in December.
Victor Butler could likely be the starter for the future for Minnesota.
Sixth selection No. 199- Jon Cooper, Center, Oklahoma
As most of you should know, Matt Birk signed with the Baltimore Ravens over his career-long team.
He will be deeply missed by Vikings fans, but we must move on and look towards the future.
Jon Cooper is a 6'2", 290-pound stud from Oklahoma. He will be re-united with former teammates Adrian Peterson and Duke Robinson.
Despite the fact that John Sullivan is expected to be the future, what would happen if he were to go down with an injury? Minnesota can't rely on Ryan Cook as a backup.
Seventh selection No. 234- Stephen Hodge, Safety, TCU
Darren Sharper elected to sign with the New Orleans Saints this offseason.
Vikings fans weren't sad with his departure. He can be replaced by somebody with incredible potential.
Tyrell Johnson is expected to be the future strong safety for the franchise.
