Hyundai Tournament of Champions 2013: Final Day Leaderboard, Analysis and More

Mike HoagJun 2, 2018

Dustin Johnson and Steve Stricker continued to lead the pack through the final round of the 2013 Hyundai Tournament of Champions. It was Johnson, though, that continued his excellent play to outlast his challenger.

Johnson’s final-round five-under par was the second-best round of the day, trailing Rickie Fowler’s six-under par.

Fowler’s six-under par propelled him from 10th place to a tie for sixth place with Tommy Gainey.

Stricker wasn’t at 100 percent, ailing from a nerve issue in his back, according to the New York Times. The trusty 45-year-old veteran performed admirably, though, keeping the gap between him and the leader close enough to make a run.

He couldn’t quite catch Johnson, however, who was on fire from the very start.

Stricker has already planned to cut down on his action this season by playing no more than 10 total events, according to Golf Channel’s Jason Sobel.

What’s most surprising about Johnson’s 16-under-par performance is that the American didn’t even grace the Plantation Course at Kapalua prior to the delayed start on Monday.

This year’s opening tournament was slightly curtailed thanks to some unpleasant weather. The party-crashing tropical storms rained out the first three days of action.

But on Day 4 on Monday, they finally got onto the course and knocked out 36 holes of golf.

Not much changed on Day 5, or Day 2, depending how you look at it. Johnson held a steady lead all day over Stricker and ultimately came out on top.

Brandt Snedeker slipped into third place, swapping with Bubba Watson who finished in a fourth-place tie with Keegan Bradley.
