Win 2010: The Green Bay Packers Super Bowl Campaign

Andrew RoseMar 30, 2009

Like most of you, I've been surfing the web instead of working today. I like to research random and interesting things. I frequent sites like Wikipedia, ESPN, dictionary.com, and of course Bleacher Report.

I usually waste all of my time there, but I know that I am shapingย up to be aย more well-rounded individual. Today my curiosity landed on this thought: what are the odds of the Packers winning next year's Super Bowl?

I knew where to turn for the answer: Google. Contributing to their one billion-trillion hits a day, I typed in "super bowl odds" in the search bar. The top result was the National Sports Advisors web site.ย I clicked the link and scrolled to the bottom where the odds for every team were listedโ€”in alphabetical order. For some reason Iย thought they would be listed in terms of best odds.ย Anyway, here they are for your perusal:

As you canย not-so-easily see, the Patriots lead the way at 9/2. In layman's terms,ย if next season were simulated nine different times, then the Patriots would win two of its nine possible Super Bowls. The Packers come in at 50/1. At least there's a chance. What about the Lions? They are actually TIED with Houston at 100/1, coming in dead-last. Poor Texans fans. You shouldn't be lumped in the same category.

In my opinion, most of this is garbage. Not only have we not gone through the draft, but there's still training camp and the regular season. As we all know, week one can have a devastating impact on a team. Just ask those heavily-favored Patriots.

Therefore, I want to offer you, the unwavering fan of the Green Bay Packers, the hope that you deserve: Win 2010. That's right. This is the slogan I have created for our beloved team.

The next Super Bowl is less than a year away in 2010 and I think the Packers have just as good of a chance to win the whole thing as the Patriots. "But what about those Chargers with 6/1 odds?" you may ask. Not to worry. They haven't been to a Super Bowl since 1994. "How about those resurging Seahawks at 12/1?" you may also ask. Ummm. They're the Seahwaks. Enough said.

Take a good look at the list above and ask yourself "do they really know which team is best-suited to win next year?" Your answer shoud be "of course they don't." That means you're a sane person.

I've never understood the prognosticators, yet somehow I was curious to know what the odds are. After seeing them, it gives me even more hope for the Packers.

Besides, can they really be serious about the Bengals at 15/1? They're the Bengals for cryin out loud!
