Tiger Woods Creates National Crisis with Probable, Improbable Victory

JoeSportsFanMar 30, 2009

Tiger Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the 72nd hole of the tournament yesterday. If you watch golf on television, you probably thought it was pretty awesome. If you don’t watch golf, you’re wondering why you should continue reading this column. I will provide the answer: You should continue reading this column because the win has made this place go bananas. Not bananas, but go bananas.

The win was the fifth of Woods’ career at Bay Hill, a place that sounds like it’s under water. It ended on a championship putt from 25 feet away just as it did in 2008. It was also Woods’ first victory since knee surgery. Those ingredients made for a lethal cocktail at the Yahoo! Sports department of photography.

But before that, let’s send it over to Tony the Tiger for an installment of “Mondays with Tony.” In this edition, Tony gives his thoughts on Tiger Woods’ victory.

Thanks, Tony. Now let’s get a look at Tiger’s exciting win through the eyes of the “Big Y,” Yahoo! Sports.

As you can see, Woods looks a bit different than he did last year at the U.S. Open. He went under the knife, and in the process achieved aged, battle-scarred warrior status. This fact did not go unnoticed at Yahoo! Sports. ###MORE###

As he’s done so many times throughout his illustrious career, the champion represented ethnic diversity with class, dignity, and grace. In the process, he really confused the guy on the night shift whose sole responsibility is updating stories.

I could see a similarity, maybe. I could also not see it, possibly.

As previously stated, Tiger won the tournament in similar fashion a year ago. The difference, however, can be traced to the post-putt celebration. In 2008, Woods emphatically slammed his cap into the green. Yesterday, he jumped into the arms of his caddy, Steve Williams.

POP QUIZ—Who Is Steve Williams?
