Robert Griffin III Responds to Critics on Twitter Following Playoff Game Injury

Alex KayJun 5, 2018

Robert Griffin III has taken a lot of flak for his decision to put his health and future on the line by participating in the Washington Redskins' Wild Card Game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The superstar rookie ended his inaugural campaign writhing in pain on the ground during the fourth quarter of an eventual 24-14 loss.

It was tough for fans to stomach, and plenty are wondering why Griffin was even out there in the first place—especially after Kareem Copeland of NFL.com reported that the team's doctor, noted orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, felt nervous about the former Heisman winner participating in the game.

Griffin has taken to Twitter to deliver a short, poignant, and somewhat cryptic statement regarding the injury.

The QB wrote early on Monday morning:

"

Many may question, criticize & think they have all the right answers. But few have been in the line of fire in battle.

— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) January 7, 2013"
"

I thank God for perspective and because of that I appreciate the support from everyone. I also appreciate the criticism.

— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) January 7, 2013"

Whether you agree with the young signal-caller, you have to respect his courage. He was the one who ultimately made the decision to suit up and play on Sunday night, and he was the one who paid the price when the risk didn’t pan out.

There are some who will be quick to criticize Griffin or head coach Mike Shanahan for not letting backup Kirk Cousins start, but this was the biggest ‘Skins game in years, and it would have taken an army to keep a somewhat healthy RGIII away from the field.

It’ll be interesting to see the extent of Griffin’s injury and how long it is expected to keep him sidelined, but we suspect the young man will return sooner than the prognosis suggests and be better than ever before.

Keep it tuned here on B/R for more on RGIII, his injury and more reaction concerning the Washington Redskins.
