BJ Penn vs. Kenny Florian Fight In The Works

Nate LawsonMar 28, 2009

Kenny Florian has made no secret of where he wants his UFC career to take him. He wants a shot at BJ Penn's Lightweight belt.

It has been assumed for a while now that Florian is the next one to get a go at Penn inside the octagon. Penn seems to agree.

Penn's website has a post stating that Penn has verbally agreed to the fight, while Florian has already signed onto the bout. Penn and his camp said that they will soon be signing on as well. This bout will be the main event of UFC 101.

This will be the first time Penn will defend his lightweight belt since early 2008 against Sean Sherk.

Make no mistake, Penn will be ready, more ready to win than he has ever been.

Penn just came off an enormous loss to Georges St. Pierre. The only thing more bruised and battered than Penn's body was his ego. He was clearly affected by this defeat, and his complaint against St. Pierre did not help his situation much either.

Therefore, one of two things will happen.

The first and most unfortunate situation would be if Penn is too demoralized by the repercussions of his last fight, and everything that happened thereafter, resulting in poor preparation for this next bout.

What I believe will happen is quite the opposite of the first scenario. Penn will be ready for this next fight, of this I am quite sure. I do not see why his training would not be the hardest and most effective him and his camp have ever been through.

His previous bout has put a fire in his heart, a fire that will make sure he is more than ready for this next fight.

While this fight may not be official yet, everything seems to be falling into place for this lightweight bout between BJ Penn and Kenny Florian to happen. This is a fight UFC fans have been waiting for and deserve to see. This is a fight Kenny Florian has been waiting for and deserves to have.

This is the fight where BJ Penn defends his belt and reminds us how dominant he is inside the octagon.
