Georgia Football Recruiting: Updates on 2013 Commits and Targets

Andrew KulhaDec 30, 2012

The Georgia Bulldogs boast one of the great football programs in the SEC, and it's a program that's always a big-time draw with recruits.

Much of that has to do with the prestige and national relevance of the program itself, but don't count out head coach Mark Richt as a factor either.

Richt has been a consistent recruiter in the SEC for years now, and his Georgia recruiting classes are always stocked with talented players.

2013 is no different.

If you're a fan of Georgia football or even just college football recruiting in general, consider this to be your "one-stop shop" for Georgia recruiting.

You'll find all the news, analysis and updates on commitments and targets that you'll ever need, right here.

Note: All 2012 stats via 247Sports unless otherwise noted.

Update: Georgia 4-star quarterback commitment Brice Ramsey looked impressive at times at the 2013 Under Armour All-America game. His final stats weren't good (5-of-16 for 65 yards and three interceptions), but he had a few very impressive throws and displayed a very strong arm. --End of Update 1/4/13

Update: Montravius Adams is a 5-star defensive tackle that's high on Georgia's recruiting board. He's the No. 1 defenisve tackle recruit in the country (247Sports Composite Rankings), and he has superstar potential.

Adams is scheduling visits, and his fourth will be to Georgia. Here's what he has to say about the visit, via Kipp Adams of ESPN.com:

"

The fourth scheduled official is to in-state Georgia, which is looking to replace its defensive line coach after Rodney Garner left to return to his alma mater, Auburn.

“Georgia is my next visit and they are pretty high for me right now.” Adams said. “Some people think they have dropped because coach Rodney Garner is gone, but I still want to meet whoever they hire at defensive line coach. They could end up bringing in someone better than him.”

"

This is great news for Georgia, because oftentimes recruits will drop a school if that school loses an assistant coach. Assistants play a huge role in the recruiting process, so Georgia is rather lucky that the loss of Garner doesn't seem to be hurting them with the 5-star defensive tackle. --End of Update.

Quarterbacks

2 of 8

Targets: None

Already Committed:

Brice Ramsey- 4-star QB, 6'3', 197 lb. (247Sports)

2012 Stats: 1,396 YD, 19 TD (via maxpreps.com)

All-Star Game: Under Armour - 5-16 64 YDS, 0 TD, 3 INT

Analysis:

Brice Ramsey is the future star quarterback of Georgia's program. He's the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the 2013 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and he'll be a competitor for the
starting job once Aaron Murray moves on from Georgia.

Ramsey is one of the better recruits in the country, and he's an in-state commitment for Richt and his staff, so he's a very important recruit for the Bulldogs.

Running Backs

3 of 8

Targets:

Alvin Kamara: 4-star all-purpose RB, 5'10'', 195 pounds. (247Sports)

2012 Stats: 2,264 rushing yards, 26 TDs

All-Star Game: Under Armour, Jan. 4, 5 p.m. ET

Biggest Competition for Commitment: Alabama

Already Committed:

A.J Turman- 4-star RB, 6'0'', 205 lb. 4.48 40 (247Sports)

2012 Stats: 1,245 YD, 15 TD

Analysis:

Georgia is doing fine at the running back position considering that superstar backs Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley were freshman this season. The Bulldogs don't have an immediate need at running back, so landing Turman is almost a bonus. He has great size and very good speed, so he could end up being a good substitute or third option for Georgia out of the backfield.

Georgia also has a good chance to get a commitment from 4-star running back Alvin Kamara, who is a very talented recruit. The Bulldogs will have to out-recruit Alabama for Kamara though.

Reggie Davis: 3-star WR, 6'0'', 158 lb. 4.55 40 (247Sports)

Analysis:

Richt has done a great job of bringing in talent at the wide receiver and tight end position. As it stands, these players will add a ton of depth and they could end up playing a big role in a few years.

Tramel Terry has the most potential out of this group but unfortunately he recently tore his ACL. He has some rehab ahead of him and might end up being a good redshirt candidate. I have a feeling Terry won't be the only redshirt out of this group.

Targets:

Laremy Tunsil: 5-star OT, 6'6'', 295 pounds, 5.12 40 (247Sports)

Josh Cardiello: 3-star G, 6'3'', 218 lb. (247Sports)

Aulden Bynum: 3-star OT, 6'5'', 270 lb. (247Sports)

Analysis:

Georgia has brought in a solid group of offensive linemen that will end up playing a role in a few years. Brandon Kublanow is the big recruit to talk about from this group, as he's the No. 4 ranked center recruit in the 2013 class according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The main target here is still 5-star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, and Georgia will be looking very good if they can land him. The Bulldogs have to be feeling good about their chances. Georgia is in Tunsil's top two according to 247Sports, along with Alabama.

Defensive Line

6 of 8

Targets:

Montravius Adams: 5-star DT, 6'4'', 310 lbs (247Sports)

DeAndre Johnson: 3-star DT, 6'3'', 310 lb. (247Sports)

Analysis:

The big recruit on the defensive line for Georgia is 4-star defensive tackle Chris Mayes. He has tremendous size at 6'4'', 330 pounds, and he projects to be a great nose tackle at the college level. John Atkins also has the potential to be a big-time defensive lineman. He's the No. 2-ranked prep school defensive tackle in the class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Georgia is still in the running for 5-star defensive tackle Montravius Adams, and it does have a good shot to land his commitment. Adams is an extremely fast and versatile defensive lineman that could be a dominant 5-technique for the Bulldogs.

Linebackers

7 of 8

Targets:

Reuben Foster: 5-star ILB, 6'1'', 240 pounds, 4.60 40 (247Sports)

All-Star Game: Under Armour, Jan. 4, 5 p.m.ET

Biggest Competition For Commitment: Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Washington

All-Star Game: U.S. Army 1/5 1pm ET

Reginald Carter: 3-star ILB, 6'2'', 230 lb. 247Sports

2012 Stats: 145 TCK

Analysis:

The key word here for linebackers will be depth. Georgia's going to need to restock the depth chart soon, especially if Jarvis Jones goes to the NFL. The Bulldogs will be getting five very talented linebackers through the 2013 class though if they can hold on to these commitments.

Tim Kimbrough is the main recruit out of this group, and he looks to have superstar potential for Georgia. He'll be more than just a backup option for Georgia's staff.

He has decent size, but where he really stands out is with his speed. He runs a 4.65 40 which means he'll be fast enough to scrape over and make plays in the gap. He'll also be a good sideline-to-sideline linebacker.

Kimbrough is the No. 6 inside linebacker recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Fellow inside linebacker recruit Johnny O'Neal is ranked No. 8 overall. Ryne Rankin is another good inside linebacker recruit, and he has already enrolled according to 247Sports.

Overall, this is a great linebacker class

Defensive Backs

8 of 8

Ashton Shumpert: 4-star S, 6'2'', 212 lb. 4.50 40 (247Sports)

2012 Stats: 64 TCK, 2 INT

2012 Stats: 80 TCK, 2 SCK, 1 INT, 2 FF

All-Star Game: U.S. Army 1/5 1pm ET

Shaq Wiggins: 4-star CB, 5'9'' 160 lb. (247Sports)

All-Star Game: Under Armour 1/4 5pm ET

Brendan Langley: 4-star CB, 6'1'', 180 lb. 4.61 40 (247Sports)

2012 Stats: 52 TCK, 4 TFL, 6 INT

Shaquille Fluker: 4-star JUCO S, 6'1'', 200 lb.

2012 Stats: 31 TCK, 5 INT, 1 FR

Reggie Wilkerson: 4-star CB, 5'11'', 175 lb. (247Sports)

J.J. Green: 3-star CB, 5'9'', 175 lb. 4.40 40 (247Sports)

Paris Bostick: 3-star S, 6'0.5'', 217 lb. (247Sports)

Kennar Johnson: 3-star S, 6'2'', 185 lb. (247Sports)

Quincey Mauger: 3-star S, 6'0'', 195 lb. (247SPorts)

Analysis:

This is the most impressive group of recruits Georgia will be bringing in the fold, and a few of these players have star potential. Tray Matthews is a premier safety recruit with good size and terrific
speed. Shaq Wiggins is the No. 13 overall corner recruit and Brendan Langley is the No. 16 corner recruit according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

To top all that off, Georgia was able to get the commitment of Shaquille Fluker, who is the No. 2 ranked JUCO safety according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Overall, this is an elite secondary group and I expect it'll become one of the best in the nation.
