2009 NFL Draft Running Back Preview
As the NFL Draft approaches, there are plenty of good running backs available.
There is a lot of different style running backs to choose from and I and going to breakdown the top orospects in this Aprils' draft.
I believe the most talented running back in this year’s Draft is junior RB Chris "Beanie" Wells out of The Ohio State. Beanie Wells is a standout playmaker who has the ability to take it to the house on any given play, which he showcased during his career at OSU.
Wells rushed for 1,197 yards on 207 attempts with eight touchdowns. Beanie ran a 4.53 40-yard dash and had a very impressive NFL Combine.
Durability has been the biggest question mark for Wells but he will overcome that in the pros.
Look for Wells to be the first RB off the board in the mid-first round.
The second can’t miss RB in the 2009 draft is Georgia red-shirt sophomore Knowshon Moreno.
The 5'10" 210-pound speedster also makes a strong argument as the top runner in the upcoming draft.
Knowshon rushed for 1,400 yards on 250 carries and had 16 rushing TD. Knowshon can come in and make an immediate impact in the NFL. During the annual NFL combine, Knowshon has great speed, a great field-presence and incredible vision.
Look for Moreno to go off the board in the mid-first round.
The third best RB is Connecticut junior Donald Brown.
This RB has all the tools to be a productive NFL runner as he has great speed, superb hands and is very durable.
Brown rushed for 2,083 yards on 367 carries and 18 scores.
Look for Brown to slide off the board in the late first round.
The fourth most talent RB prospect is Iowa's 5'11" 235-pound junior Shonn Greene.
Greene was under the radar pretty much all season, rushing over 100 yards in every game in 2008 for the Hawkeyes.
Shonn rushed for 1,850 yards with 20 Touchdowns on 308 attempts. Greene was arguably was the most durable and dependable player on a mediocre Iowa team.
Look for this player to hear his name called early in the second round.
The fifth best player available in the NFL Draft is Pittsburgh sophomore Lesean McCoy.
This is another underclassman that rounds off the top RB in the 2009 Draft.
The 5'11" 210-pound Lesean McCoy rushed for 1,403 yards on 284 carries with 21 TD in 2008.
McCoy was the main part of the offense for Pittsburgh for the past two seasons.
He has great speed and is a great playmaker.
Lesean McCoy will find out which NFL city he will call home in the mid-second round.
The talent in this year’s draft is headlined by underclassmen, and it will be interesting to see which teams these fine prospects will play for next season.
Watch out for sleepers, which include RB Javon Ringer of Michigan State and P.J. Hill from Wisconsin.
