NFL Draft: How Picks 21-32 Should Look
We already discussed how the Top 10 and picks 11-20 of the NFL draft should look if you took the salary slots out of the equation. Now let’s look at how the rest of the first round plays out.
No. 21 Philadelphia Eagles - Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
The Eagles have a lot of needs, but with Brian Westbrook again and Correll Buckhalter in the Rockies, the Eagles would be wise to add Moreno to reduce the team’s dependence on Westy.
No. 22 Minnesota Vikings - Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
As I discussed earlier, the Vikings two biggest needs are at CB and RT. I think they would be better suited to address the CB situation here, and focus on the RT in the second round (Pick 54).
Vontae is a gifted athlete, who could learn under Antoine Winfield.
No. 23 New England Patriots - Clint Sintim, LB, Virginia
The Patriots still need to add young talent at LB despite selecting Defensive ROY Jerod Mayo last year. Sintim is a good fit since he can play inside or outside. Belichick loves versatility.
No. 24 Atlanta Falcons - Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
Matt Ryan had a phenomenal Rookie season for the Falcons. With a great No. 1 WR in Roddy White and a solid No. 2 in Michael Jenkins, wouldn’t a big time Tight End be a perfect choice?
No. 25 Miami Dolphins - D.J. Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
The Dolphins need a replacement for Andre Goodman, and Moore would fit the bill. He has great speed and a knack for making plays. He is also a solid return man, that could allow Ted Ginn, Jr. to focus more on Offense.
No. 26 Baltimore Ravens - Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
The Ravens parted ways with Chris McAllister this offseason, so replacing him would make sense. He doesn’t have great height or speed, but has great instincts. He set an ACC record with 21 INTs.
No. 27 Indianapolis Colts - Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi
The Colts regressed in their ability to stop the run last year. Plugging Jerry in not only would help there, but he also has the ability to get to the Quarterback. Indy was middle of the road in terms of Sacks last year.
No. 28 Philadelphia Eagles - Ebon Britton, T, Arizona
The Eagles have a clear need at Tackle as they lost Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan may not return. Britton is the best Tackle on the board at this point, and the Birds would be wise to snatch him up.
No. 29 New York Giants - Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
The Giants haven’t resolved the Plaxico Burress issue so WR is a need. Heyward-Bay has good size and incredible speed. He would allow the Giants to stretch the field, and could also handle return duties.
No. 30 Tennessee Titans - Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
Tennessee also needs help at WR. Britt has great size (6'3", 218lbs) and solid 4.4 speed. He benched 225 pounds 23 times at the combine so it appears he’s the complete package.
No. 31 Arizona Cardinals - Donald Brown, RB, UConn
The Cardinals need a Running Back in the worst way. They missed out on Moreno and Beanie, but Brown has the ability to get it done in the NFL. He ran for 2083 yards and 18 TDs last year. Brown would be a nice compliment to Tim Hightower.
No. 32 Pittsburgh Steelers - Max Unger, OL, Oregon
Max is a great fit not only because the Steelers need help on their Offensive Line, but because he is versatile enough to play a couple positions for the Champs. He can play both Center and Guard.
