Wildcats-Blue Devils: Duke Embarrassing in Blowout Loss

Bare KnucksMar 26, 2009

It feels good to say it again: Duke sucks.

Villanova came to play Thursday night, giving Duke an embarrassing defeat, 77-54. This game wasn’t really even close. Duke trailed for most of the game, barring the first few minutes and quick rally to start the second half. Other than that, the Duke Blue Devils played like just about every other ACC team in this tournament (other than North Carolina, so far).

Duke is a team the lives by its three-pointers, which the Blue Devils made only five out of 27 against Villanova (18.5 percent). Duke added to the humiliation by shooting an astonishing 26.7 percent from the field.

Jon Scheyer lit it up as usual, going 2-for-10 from downtown and a total 3-for-18 from the field. Gerald ‘Big Game’ Henderson took it upon himself to carry the burden of the team by contributing seven points and going 1-for-14 from the field.

Greg Paulus, in his final game as a Duke Blue Devil, put it all out on the line with 110 percent effort and a continuous barrage of floor-slapping defense. Paulus will go down as the best bench player to wear a forearm sleeve in the history of the game.

Good luck in Europe, Greg. Well, maybe.

The defeat Thursday night has ended Duke’s season and probably its last chance to get this far anytime soon.

I’m assuming/hoping that Henderson will be declaring for the NBA, although Duke players always seem to stick around for another year to spite me. If Henderson decides to stay, then Duke will have a good shot at being an ACC title contender. If he leaves…well sorry, Dukies.

Duke sucks.
