The Next Best Ever? Finally a Player who Truely Graces the Premiership

Vincent ChowMar 25, 2008

Alan Shearer, David Beckham, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry..the list goes on for the great players who have graced the premiership for years.

However, the one thing that comes to mind will be the lack of 'FIFA best player' or the 'Ballon'd'or' which truly set these players apart from the other great players to become a Kaka, Ronaldinho, Zidane etc.

Just why have these players been missing out at the greatest individual awards in the world of football? Are they really not good enough? I find it naive to say that NONE of the premiership players apart from Michael Owen (who won the ballon'd'or) deserved to win these golden awards.

However, if Cristiano Ronaldo fail to win either if not both of these awards this year, the F.A may find themselves dealing with a new silly problem that they might have to controversially solve. Has there ever been a player who could toy with defenders the way he does? Yes, Thierry Henry had all the mesmerising skills and scored eye-popping goals, however, he had to compete against the likes of Ronaldinho and Zidane in the years when he played at his best.

This season, however, only one player can challenge the mighty Man Utd winger, and that is the wonder-kid of Barcelona, Messi. Although I personally believe that it is as hard to  separate the two as it is to study rocket science, it is not difficult to argue that statistically, there are no better player than Ronaldo in the world at the moment.

Messi has not played consistently due to injuries. Whereas Ronaldo has been fit all season, and just about single-handily won half of the games for Man Utd. Being an Arsenal fan, it is a tough pill to swallow, to accept that Ronaldo is quite possibly, the next big thing in terms of putting himself into the level of the Pele, Maradona and Cruyff.

This is because the lad is at the peak of his career at just 23! If he can produce this kind of form for another six to seven years, there is no way in the world that he can't be mentioned amongst those names.

Let's just hope he won't be playing against the gunners for those six to seven years..
