Top Five Fantasy Hitters for the 2009 MLB Season

Mark DiamondMar 26, 2009

When I wanted to choose my team for fantasy baseball, I was confused. I knew Manny was a great hitter, but he was projected to get only 553 points while Grady Sizemore was projected with 688. After looking long and hard at stats from past years, I found a good list of my top five position players.

5. Hanley Ramirez

At just 25, Hanley has had one of the fastest starting careers in MLB history. Batting .308 with 79 home runs in just three seasons, he is just getting started and will be one of the best players and a very smart pick.

4. Mark Teixeira

One of the most underrated players in baseball, Teixeira, who is now on the Yankees, will have an even greater season. I expect him to get at least 130 RBI because of that great lineup in front of him.

3. David Wright

Last year, the Mets third baseman batted .302 with 33 home runs and again is headed for a great season with a great start in the World Baseball Classic. He is an unquestionable pick, never batting under .300 (except in his rookie year).

2. Grady Sizemore

He had an amazing season last year and this year he is turning 27, so he doesn't seem to be slowing down. He is a controversial first pick because there are so many good outfielders, so you should pick other positions first. But he is just so good, it shouldn't matter.

1. Albert Pujols

He is a pretty obvious pick, last year leading the league in points and not seeming to slow down.
