Joe Mathis has finally made his long-awaited decision, and the young defensive end will be heading to the Washington Huskies.

Mathis is a highly coveted recruit, and Steve Sarkisian will be glad to add another potential star to his Class of 2013 haul, according to Fox Sports' Brandon Huffman.

At 6’4”, 255 lbs., the Upland, Calif. native has the size and skill to be a real menace for opposing offenses. He’s been mainly touted for his run defense, as he’s extremely strong and has a motor that just doesn’t quit.

A number of schools were interested in the Upland High School star, as Rivals lists him as the No. 11 DE in the nation, while 247Sports has ranked him as a 4-star recruit. ESPN has placed him on their coveted ESPN300 list as the No. 251 overall player in the class.

After decomitting from Washington in February, Mathis drew interest and offers from Utah, Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Boise State, Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Vanderbilt, Washington State and many other top programs across the nation.

However, after weighing his options, Mathis clearly felt that the Huskies would have his best interests at heart and give him a chance to excel on both the gridiron and in the classroom.

We look forward to seeing Mathis don the purple and gold and star in Husky Stadium in the near future, as his prowess as a run-blocking end projects to be a great asset to the Huskies.
