Updated Top 20 Fantasy Third Basemen for 2009
Eric StashinMar 25, 2009
It’s time to take a look at the top 20 third basemen—a list which has seen one major change thanks to Alex Rodriguez's injury. Let’s see how things shook out (to view the original rankings, click here):
- David Wright—New York Mets
- Miguel Cabrera—Detroit Tigers
- Evan Longoria—Tampa Bay Rays
- Aramis Ramirez—Chicago Cubs
- Alex Rodriguez—New York Yankees
- Kevin Youkilis—Boston Red Sox
- Chipper Jones—Atlanta Braves
- Chris Davis—Texas Rangers
- Garrett Atkins—Colorado Rockies
- Adrian Beltre—Seattle Mariners
- Ryan Zimmerman—Washington Nationals
- Chone Figgins—Los Angeles Angels
- Alex Gordon—Kansas City Royals
- Aubrey Huff—Baltimore Orioles
- Edwin Encarnacion—Cincinnati Reds
- Mike Lowell—Boston Red Sox
- Hank Blalock—Texas Rangers
- Kevin Kouzmanoff—San Diego Padres
- Mark Reynolds—Arizona Diamondbacks
- Jorge Cantu—Florida Marlins
Notes
- Obviously, the big move is A-Rod due to his injury. I still couldn’t drop him outside of the top five, however, even with him missing a month of action. Like I’ve said before, five months of A-Rod will likely result in better production than six months of the majority of other players.
- I bumped Alex Gordon up a few spots as well because I really do feel strongly that this is the season he finally puts it all together. It is his third full season in the majors and after being rushed, it is time to put up or shut up.
- Troy Glaus fell off the list completely, thanks to his injury. In his place is Mark Reynolds, though that doesn’t say too much.
- I was going to drop Kevin Kouzmanoff off the list, but a strong spring has helped to bring back some hope. Maybe this is the season he finally lives up to the hype—I’m not willing to give up on him yet.
