Who Should Replace Jay Cutler in Denver?

Erin McLaughlinMar 24, 2009

We all know it is inevitable that Jay Cutler will be traded from Denver. This story is big everywhere mainly because many teams want him.

The next part is finding somebody to replace him. They could draft. However, a more likely scenario would be a trade. With that comes somebody who is either unproven or so far been a disappointment. Having said that, there are good candidates who are still young.

So, Bronco fans, whom do you want? Let's look at some of the candidates.

1. Brady Quinn

He is unproven but has shown some promise. He is familiar with the system. He ran it at Notre Dame. He seems to be at the top of every trade talk involving Denver. It would probably take a three way trade to get him.

2. Derek Anderson

He has a cannon for an arm and a Pro Bowl on his resume. Questions about his consistency and ability to hit the short to intermediate routes do raise concern. It would probably take a three way trade to get him.

3. Chris Simms

He is the guy there now that is slated to be the backup. However, he was a developing QB before the spleen injury. He could be a guy you start and draft another to develop while Simms is playing. Questions about the injury will continue to be a concern.

4. Matt Leinart

He has not been mentioned but is certainly worth looking at. He has been disappointing to this point but is still young and has potential. The trouble is that his current team may not want to unload him with the starter being in the twilight of his career.

It would probably take a three-way trade to get him.

5. Vince Young

See Matt Leinart.

The risks are obvious but the potential is still huge.

7. Alex Smith

Another guy who has been a disappointment but is still young. A trade sending Cutler to the Niners could happen. The Broncos would likely get more in return than Smith.

8. Jason Campbell

This guy has been promising in spots. The concern would be this kid has already been through too many Offensive Coordinators. It is hard to develop consistency this way. A trade sending Cutler to the Skins could happen. The Broncos would likely get more in return than Campbell.

So Denver fans, there are the candidates. Feel free to vote on the poll or leave comments.
