Al Davis Attends Lane Kiffin's Deposition...But Why?
Not being a legal eagle, I can only speak of what I have personally experienced, but when we talk about depositions, I know that the only ones who need to be there are the one being deposed, a court reporter, and the opposing counsel doing the deposition.
So reports that Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis attended former head coach Lane Kiffin's seven-hour deposition are puzzling.
I mean, who really knows why Al does things the way he does? Al was a mystery even in his heyday, and is much more so today in his waning days of thunder. But, for whatever it's worth, I'll take a guess.
All Davis simply wanted was to intimidate Kiffin, to either shake him a bit or rattle him a lot. It fascinates me how Al Davis, in his blind zeal for revenge, has become in many ways clueless to how ineffective he is.
Think about it. This kid has been in the game of football since birth. He has grown around the game in every aspect, in every facet and at every level. He's lived around Hall of Fame superstar players and coaches.
Forget about the fact most people refer to Al as Mr. Davis. Lane Kiffin still calls him Al to his face, so I will too.
Tell me, Al, how does attending something you don't need to attend help the team? How is it furthering the cause of the Raiders when, instead of working on the upcoming draft, you’re wasting time pussyfooting around watching depositions? Are your lawyers so incompetent that you need to be there to oversee their work?
This may be a shock to you, Al, but you can't intimidate Lane Kiffin. Not today, not tomorrow, not even when he comes back to own the Raiders.
Own the Raiders, you ask? Yes, Al, when you're forced to deed this team over to him when you lose the case—and you WILL lose the case—that could be a reality. Well, perhaps that's just wishful thinking. But sir, you ain't got a chance to win this case.
No wonder we're in such dire straits. There is nobody around with enough intestinal fortitude to tell the old man it's stupid to waste his time. Granted, Kiffin was the only guy ballsy enough to stand up to Davis, so maybe that's why Davis wanted to be there...to see someone with an opinion who's not afraid to express it and fully back it up. Someone other than just another yes man who Davis can willy-nilly throttle, bash, slander, and push around.
It must be cold walking around with no clothes there, Al.
Before you gear up to respond, bear in mind that I'm a lifelong Raiders fan who supports them heart and soul. Believe me, I really don't take anything too seriously. I understand the game and it's OK to disagree.
Truthfully, in many ways, writing here has been very humorous, to say the least. After all, this is the Internet and it is not my life. This is just an opinion.
One last thought: There's only one nation, folks, and that's the Raider Nation!
