TUF 16 Finale and UFC on FX 6: A Fan's Guide to the Action

Anthony FuscoDec 11, 2012

This coming Friday and Saturday gives us a double dosage of UFC action.

Kicking it off on Friday you have the TUF: The Smashes Finale, and on Saturday we are treated to the TUF 16 Finale.

Both of these fight cards have some phenomenal talent on them. From bruising heavyweights to fast-paced featherweights, fans are in for a treat.

Here is a guide of what you, the fan, can expect from both of these events.

Two Coach Fights

1 of 5

In the main event of both fight cards the coaches will be putting on a show.

Roy Nelson will fight his former castmate and Shane Carwin injury replacement, Matt Mitrione. Both heavyweights are exciting and should put on a good scrap.

In the TUF: The Smashes Finale, lightweights Ross Pearson and George Sotiropoulos will fight in the main event of their fight card.

Both lightweights have excellent skill sets and should provide an action-packed fight to close out the night.

Lightweight and Welterweight Contracts Up for Grabs

2 of 5

With both shows finished up, all that remains are the awarding of the contracts.

In the TUF 16 Finale, Mike Ricci and Colton Smith duke it out for a contract to fight in the UFC.

In the TUF: The Smashes Finale, welterweights Brad Scott and Robert Whittaker face off, while lightweights Norman Parke and Colin Fletcher duel for the final contract.

All of these fighters are hungry and motivated to become the next ultimate fighter. Who gets the contract all depends on who wants it more.

Lombard vs. Palhares: UFC on FX 6

3 of 5

UFC on FX 6 will play host to the battle of the stocky middleweights.

Hector Lombard and Rousimar Palhares will fight to determine who gets back into the middleweight picture.

Palhares is a leglock submission wizard, and Lombard is a feared striker. Both men are coming off losses and could use the win.

Basically all the makings of a great fight.

Two feared heavyweight strikers are on tap for the TUF 16 Finale.

Pat Barry, a K-1 veteran, and Shane del Rosario, a Muay Thai champion, are set to battle in what promises to be a potential fight of the night.

Both men are high-level strikers with 14 knockout wins between them.

Don't blink, or you might miss a highlight-reel finish.

Other Fights to Watch from Both Events

Both events feature a plethora of talented fighters and stacked matchups.

On the UFC on FX 6 event, featherweight Chad Mendes takes on UFC newcomer Yaotzin Meza.

On the TUF 16 Finale, perennial featherweight contender Dustin Poirier faces TUF 12 winner Jonathan Brookins.

Also on that card is a bout between the powerful Melvin Guillard and the durable Jamie Varner.

Both cards have intriguing fights that are sure to be fan pleasers. It will be a good weekend of fights that will no doubt provide some fantastic finishes.
