Toronto's Top Teams a Dismal Oddessy

Vincent MuambiMar 24, 2009

Ever wonder why the Toronto Raptors, Maple Leafs, and Blue Jays underperform?

Neither do I, but I suppose that's to do with the fact that fans of all three clubs are so used to mediocrity that even players themselves who care more about the game tend to accept it.

This is unacceptable. This is unfounded. This is exactly why so many sports fans here in the Greater Toronto Area are losing faith in their teams more often.

They look at the television screen, tune into their car radios, sit alongside patrons and beer drinkers at the local bar, and what they find is total proliferation.

They can't help but hide their heads behind their hands in shame, groan and mumble, agonize about the waisted minutes and the fact that could have stayed home instead of actually going to the game, or just simply doing something else with their time.

They wonder if the Leafs (who are on verge of not advancing to the postseason for a fourth consecutive year) have anything of value to offer or whether the teams is just playing a tease.

They begin to question the intelligence or decision making of Bryan Colangelo, the general manager of the Toronto Raptors and a well respected executive in the league.

They wonder whether or not the Blue Jays will ever make the playoffs or wild card at all.

Some people would wonder why Toronto went ahead and decided to house a baseball team in the first place.

For Leafs, it's a funny situation they're in, considering the fact that their's a deepening call by frustrated fans who afford to pay for and go to the games at the ACC for the National Hockey League to award Toronto a second NHL team.

I'm one of them, and I don't apologize for supporting that idea.

The Toronto Raptors on the other hand are even more troubling. They don't have a prayer. They can't shoot, half their team wouldn't make the bench for another team, and Chris Bosh, the star player, is accused of being a deadbeat father.

So, to the Blue Jays. Well, for that, I'm not going to bother say anything. You can decide and judge for yourself what worth the Blue Jays deserve, but I've already thrown in the towel years ago—when they weren't winning.
