Manny Pacquiao: What The Future Holds

With little more than a month to go until his much anticipated fight with Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton, Manny Pacquaio seems to have never ending storylines and twists that only a soap opera could equal.

The latest, of course, is the media partner brouhaha which, to the wider world, does not deserve a mention, but in the Philippines, created a lot of controversy.

The saga made such an impact that, after it was finally resolved, no lesser authority than the President's Office declared that it was happy that Manny and the media partner had come to an agreement.

As I recall, before the fight was confirmed there was also a very interesting story that Manny agreed to sign the contract after one of his closest friends, who does not drink beer, persuaded him by agreeing to sink three beers if Manny signed.

The UK media also reported an intriguing Manny anecdote. They stated that he was able to attract many of his fans to attend the promotional day in England, even though it was supposed to be a work day. Thousands came and missed their day jobs to to see their idol.

These are some of the stories that are testament to the fact that "The Pacman" has become larger than life. He is a soap opera that needs no production staff, no TV station, and no sponsors. Every week he is on the news, especially in the Philippines.

What could be the significance of these events?

To the ordinary person like me, this is nothing more than hype, intended to attain one goal; to advertise the upcoming Hatton-Pacquaio fight and ensure it will be a blockbuster. No problem with that, is there?

However, there is an intriguing question that comes to my mind after analyzing these events. There must be a reason for these events to happen, which will surely affect the future of Manny as a person, after he has hung up his gloves.
