Fantasy Golf Update: Goosen Wins the Transitions, Tour Heads to Arnie's

Thomas MorelandMar 22, 2009

Scores went up and down on Sunday, but Retief Goosen came out on top in the end.

The Transitions Championship was a nice win for Goosen to get; the tour now heads to Bayhill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Tiger will be there, as well as many other good players, as this invite is not one you say "no" to. After all, when the "King" calls, everyone comes.

My fantasy team this week will be led by Woods, as this is a veritable "home game" for the No. 1 player in the world. Tiger at Bayhill is much like the Lakers at the Staples Center, the Celtics in Boston Garden, or Kurt Busch at Bristol: You shouldn't bet against him.

Other players I'll be picking up are Davis Love III, Nick Watney (who I believe will win again this season), and Charles Howell III.

Off the bench, I'll have Anthony Kim, Vijay Singh, Pat Perez, and Goosen.

Last week, my team started off hot. Leading my group was Jim Furyk, who shot a 63 in the first round to take a lead in the tournament. He then promptly shot himself in the foot with a 78 in the second round.

Two of my other players, Nick Watney and Steve Stricker, were tied for first after the second round. Then they, too, fell off the pace. I brought in Kenny Perry for rounds three and four.

Stricker eventually finished in fourth, while Watney got 12th. Kenny Perry finished 17th, and Ben Crane managed a small payday with 63rd.

I am currently ranked at 31,882nd in Yahoo! Fantasy Golf with 1,422 points. This keeps me tied exactly with one expert: Michael Arkush.

I sense my luck will change this week, however, as Tiger wins about 25 percent of the times he enters a tournament. He is due, and he knows these greens.

Look for a winning score right between -16 to -20.

In other golf news, Chapchai Nirat, a golfer from Thailand, broke the professional scoring mark held by Ennie Els (-31) with a -32 in India this weekend.

Nirat says he will try to make it through Q School next season so as to join the American PGA Tour.

Again, congratulations to Retief Goosen for his first win since 2005 on the PGA Tour.

Make some putts and have a great week.

The foursome was at the third green when a limousine drove up on the road running along side the hole. A window rolled down and a young woman dressed all in white and holding a bouquet leaned out the window.

"Bobby, Bobby," she sobbed. "You promised you would meet me at the church."

"Not now, Tiffany", said Bobby, eyeing his putt. 'I said if it rained.'"
