Chelsea Transfers: 5 Players Fans Would Love to See Arrive in January
Chelsea have had a tough row to hoe lately in their current plight of terrible form.
Despite what seemed a promising start against West Ham with the Spanish duo of Fernando Torres and Juan Mata finally linking up for once in a blue moon. However, Fernando Torres was a better center-half in the second period than he was a striker, as he spent more time taking defensive headers than causing West Ham's defense to turn on their own heads.
The current state of affairs is utter turmoil in many ways.
The fans continue to project their animosity towards the loss of Roberto Di Matteo and the hiring of Rafael Benitez, the veteran leadership of Frank Lampard and John Terry remains sidelined with injury in a time in which they are desperately needed and Fernando Torres remains a low-scoring flop.
If it were a perfect "Blues," January would see an influx of players the fans would cheer for and could help reestablish the bond between supporter and club.
With that in mind, here are some moves that Chelsea fans would welcome with open arms.
Leighton Baines
1 of 5It looks as though veteran left-back Ashley Cole is going to leave Chelsea sooner rather than later. If the England international does leave in January, who better to replace him than arguably the second best left-back in the country, Everton's Leighton Baines?
While Baines has mainly been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich certainly would have the financial clout to make an offer that the Toffees truly could not refuse.
Leandro Damiao
2 of 5What can bring more excitement to the Blues than another Brazilian youngster?
David Luiz and Oscar are already locked up and provide the club with a classic element of Brazilian flair.
However, the addition of young Internacional star Leandro Damiao could bring a South American nose for goal to the front line.
A nose for goal from any country has been missing for over a month now at Stamford Bridge, and why not make the rumors from Metro come true in the new year?
Marouane Fellaini
3 of 5Another Everton star that would make a great fan splash would be Marouane Fellaini.
The club already have a major Belgian influence in their squad. The addition of the big-haired midfield sensation could bring life to the attacking midfield position, and who doesn't want to see thousands of Afro wigs in Stamford Bridge's stands.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the player by the Mirror, but unless the Toffees are offered an obscene amount of money, Fellaini is not going anywhere in the January window.
Radamel Falcao
4 of 5If there is one striker that the Blues fans want more than anything, it is Atletico Madrid's Colombian goal-scoring machine Radamel Falcao.
The South American is easily the most talked-about Chelsea rumor of the past several months by the Sky Sports and various other sources, including B/R.
Chelsea fans want goals, and from the looks of it, Falcao could provide them. If Roman Abramovich wants to use his pocketbook to appease fans, and not just himself with transfers, then signing Falcao is just what the doctor ordered.
Pep Guardiola
5 of 5If there is one face the fans would welcome to Stamford Bridge above all others it would be Pep Guardiola. The former Barcelona manager continues to be the most sought-after managerial figure in the game since his resignation and continues to be linked to the club by the Mirror.
Although the managerial style of Guardiola would be great for the players currently at Chelsea, he likely would not be the best fit for an owner such as Abramovich. The Spanish tactician would need time, not Abramovich time. Real time.
If Guardiola had a rough month, such as Roberto Di Matteo did, the last thing he would need is an owner who would sack him for a bad three or four games.
Form goes up and down, it is part of the game. Sometimes your game plan works, other times it doesn't.
At the end of the day, Chelsea fans would love nothing more than Pep Guardiola as their new manager.
