Interactive MMA Tournament: Middleweight Finals

Jessy MorrisMar 22, 2009

I can't believe it, this is the final Interactive Tournament—well, almost. There will be one final article next week with this week's results and a recap of the complete Interactive Tournament articles. Last week, four middleweights were featured in the semifinals. Here are the results of how it all went down:

Dan Henderson had a dominant victory over Yushin Okami with a 13-3 vote.

In what was one of the closest votes so far, Nate Marquardt eliminated Demian Maia with a 9-7 vote.

So now the finals of the middleweight tournament is set.

Final fight: Dan Henderson vs. Nate Marquardt

This is a fight I would love to see. Both men have proved their dominance in the division with wins over the top names. Both men have also the desire to get a rematch against UFC middleweight king, Anderson Silva, a man that made them look average in their fights.

Henderson and Marquardt bring intersting games to the octagon. Marquardt is explosive, has a black belt in BJJ and has great kickboxing skills. Henderson is a veteran with plenty of experience and a very good wrestling background.

I think this is a very complicated fight to predict, both men are good at imposing their will and fighting the fight where they want. Marquardt has an advantage in striking and BJJ but Henderson still knocked out KO specialist Wanderlei Silva in PRIDE. Even if Hendo has underestimated striking skills, his best chance would be ground and pound Marquardt to a decision.

Who wins the finals of the middleweight tournament?

There you have it, the finals of the tournament. Leave your votes and tune in next week for the final Interactive Tournament article.
