The Ultimate Fighter: Best or Worst Thing for the UFC?
No doubt about it, the TV show Ultimate Fighter brought the UFC back into the spotlight and threw it on to the national stage that it is on now. This is mainly because of the first final between Griffin and Bonnar.
Now, the series known for excellent fights has turned into a waiting game to see who is going to blow up next.
Watching last season with Junie Browning was a disgrace to watch. Every week, I was waiting for Dana to send this kid home, and every week Junie got another pass. Twice he threw glass cups at fellow fighters and at one point rushed into the ring after a teammate lost a fight.
Not only did he stay on the show, he was given a spot on the final fight card.
The season before that you had the literally primate like antics of Jesse Taylor. While Jesse never threatened injury to a cast mate like Junie, on two occasions he urinated on himself in front of everyone.
He became the only cast member to ever be removed from the show after making it to the finals. This was done because he kicked out a limo window while he was drunk.
Being an aspiring MMA fighter myself I hate to watch such antics. In every show you have someone who gets wasted the night before a fight. If I was in these guys position I would not touch a drop of alcohol and insure that I am in the best condition for my fight.
However, these guys don’t seem to care one bit about the opportunity they have been given. If you watch the show, it would be hard to respect any UFC athlete.
Dana, enough is enough. As it stands the way things are going on in this show is a disgrace for MMA athletes. The Ultimate Fighter makes every MMA fighter look like a drunken idiot who has rage issues and enjoys trashing an entire house.
If I was Dana, I would be the angriest person on earth. I give these guys a chance of a lifetime and all they care about is drinking my alcohol and destroying my house.
This season, I hope Dana makes a stand for all other fighters like Forest, Bonnar, and Coture. This season, if someone breaks something in the house intentionally, replace them with someone who actually cares about his career.
Please take a stand for your organization’s appearance to others. Show the world that UFC athletes are just that, athletes—not guys who just like to drink and fight.
