CM Punk: What If He Doesn't Lose the WWE Title to the Rock at the Royal Rumble?

OK, tell me if you’ve heard this scenario before.

CM Punk is still WWE champion and faces the Rock at the Royal Rumble. The Rock defeats CM Punk and becomes the new WWE champion. John Cena wins the Royal Rumble match and earns a shot at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 29. John Cena defeats the Rock and wins the WWE Championship.

Have you heard it before?

Well, what if that didn’t happen?

What if CM Punk defeats the Rock at the Royal Rumble?

Well, the G-U-DOUBLE T (yours truly!) believes as we get closer to January, CM Punk will retain the WWE Championship against the Rock.

Here are some consequences of Punk not losing his WWE title to the Rock at the Royal Rumble.

The Rock’s Appearance Is for Ratings

When The Rock does not capture the WWE title from CM Punk at Royal Rumble, there is still purpose to the Rock’s inclusion.

WWE fans are continuously reading about ratings and complaining as to whose fault it is. Whether or not you believe it to be CM Punk’s fault, I am sure that most people would agree the Rock would help with the ratings.

While many believe the Rock will win the title, the ratings should still be high. Everyone should be tuning in to see whether or not the Rock can end CM Punk’s one-plus-year title reign.

Helps Build CM Punk’s Reign/Best in the World

The Rock’s future loss to CM Punk at the Royal Rumble will actually help WWE in building CM Punk’s title reign.

At the same time, the Rock’s loss will help CM Punk’s declaration that he is in fact the best in the world.

The Rock is arguably one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. Even during the Attitude Era when the roster was the deepest it probably ever was, The Rock stood out.

In addition, The Rock defeated John Cena cleanly last year at WrestleMania 28.

If Punk…excuse me. When CM Punk defeats the Rock at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, everyone needs to believe that he truly is the best in the world.

That is if he defeats the Rock cleanly…

Who and When Will He Lose the WWE Title?

Since the Rock won’t be winning the WWE title from CM Punk at the Royal Rumble, who and when will Punk’s reign end?

The G-U-DOUBLE T is here to tell you that the grandest reign in more than 20 years will end on the grandest stage of them all.

CM Punk should and most likely will lose the WWE title at WrestleMania 29. The bigger question is who will end his reign?

The most likely candidates include The Rock, John Cena and Ryback. Let’s rule out the Rock due to him facing someone else at WrestleMania.

With my prediction of Ryback winning the Royal Rumble, that leaves just John Cena.

Despite the obvious scenario involving CM Punk, the Rock and John Cena, it would be wise for WWE to go a different route.

I am in no way a John Cena fan, however who else deserves to take the WWE title from CM Punk?

WWE could choose to go with a new top babyface in Ryback or even the Miz now that he has turned. However, has Ryback, the Miz or anyone else done enough to get the satisfaction and honor of dethroning CM Punk as the longtime WWE champion?
