Derek Jeter: Still The Face Of Baseball

They stand behind Jeter because he is the face of baseball.
So why is Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports calling for Team USA to replace him in the lineup?

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
"“Ryan Braun’s expected return gives Team USA an extra body. That still isn’t enough. Even if Longoria provides nothing more than a right-handed bat and insurance on Wright’s toe – he should be the designated hitter, but it would be positively un-American to bench the ineffective Derek Jeter, now wouldn’t it?”
"
At age 34, Jeter is past his prime, but he still has some good days ahead of him. Taking him out of the WBC, or at least the starting lineup, would almost be un-American, but worse it could create even more apathy for the spring classic.
In just the second time through the WBC the games need more American support not less. While Braun is certainly a big star who has only begun to shine, Jeter is the star that shines brightest.
Besides, he was one of America’s best hitters in 2006 and certainly still has the talent in 2009.
