UFC Prez Dana White: "Ronda Rousey Did Sign with the UFC"

Scott HarrisMay 31, 2018

Ronda Rousey, the world's top female MMA fighter, has indeed signed with the UFC, according to UFC President Dana White.

Appearing Friday on the Jim Rome Show, White was asked about Ronda Rousey's status.

"Yes," White said. "It's official. Ronda Rousey did sign with the UFC."

Rousey's previous promotion, Strikeforce, will reportedly fold in January after one last event. Following that announcement, rumors arose that Rousey would move to the UFC, and in so doing become the first female fighter to ever compete in the Octagon.

However, Team Rousey was coy about the rumors and refused to issue a confirmation. White was less coy in confirming the deal to Rome.

"She's beautiful," White said. "But deep down inside, she's a killer."

There has also been a question about who Rousey might fight. Rousey, who competes at 135 pounds, has been trading Internet barbs with Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, generally regarded as the world's second-best woman MMA fighter. Santos, however, fights at 145 pounds, and it was recently revealed that a cut down to 135 pounds might seriously compromise her health.

While declining to name names, White did say there would be opponents for Rousey.

"Over the next two years, we’ve got really good opponents for her," White said.
