Dear Liverpool: You May Have Won the Battle, but Can You Win the War?

Salaar ShamsiMar 17, 2009

Indeed, Liverpool destroyed Manchester United over 90 minutes of sensational football at Old Trafford on Saturday. No Exaggeration—destroyed.

Being a United supporter, it's hard for me to admit defeat but it is true, Liverpool were undoubtedly the better side and they came from behind to "rape" the Red Devils in their own backyard, as a mate of mine commented in the aftermath of the game.

It was a shocking result for all United supporters. 1-4? "Seriously?"

After the humiliating Real Madrid and now Manchester United, Liverpool look in sensational form and Rafael Benitez is finally playing his cards right.

I believe in no excuses, which is why I always think defeat should be accepted graciously.

Liverpool have gained revenge on their better rivals, Manchester United, by rubbing salt in their wounds as they have defeated the World Champions both home and away this season.

Now to the facts, United are still four points ahead, with a game in hand so perhaps even seven points ahead but in football, you never know!

Liverpool and Chelsea are pressing on United's heels for reclaiming domestic glory which the Red Devils have proudly hung on to for the last two seasons.

In the Champions League, I would dearly love to see United against Liverpool in Rome but we'll have to wait and watch how that pans out. Barcelona, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also looking quite strong.

In the FA Cup, United have Everton standing in their way but with Liverpool already knocked out, they will have to face either Chelsea or Arsenal in the final at Wembley.

Can Liverpool ruin United's hat-trick or more importantly United's run into the Fantastic Five?
