2012 Fantasy Football Week 11: Kicker Rankings, Projections

Sean E. DouglasJun 7, 2018

We should have another defensive-driven game between the Steelers and Ravens this week. After posting 55 points against the Raiders, Joe Flacco and the Ravens are flying high coming into this important contest. Of course, no one should expect the same results this week as Baltimore will face a Pittsburgh defense that has played like a top five unit in recent weeks.

No, expect the Ravens to lean on the kicking game a little more, and that means Justin Tucker is set for a strong performance.

One of the emerging rookie kickers in the NFL, Tucker is 17-of-18 on the season with a long of 56 yards. Coach John Harbaugh won’t balk at long opportunities with a young kicker as he’s proven to have confidence in Tucker throughout this season.

What Did We Learn From Week 10?

David Akers missed what is usually, for him, a routine field goal in overtime and it cost San Francisco a win. After his best season as a pro in 2011, Akers hasn’t been the same player and his accuracy has suffered, now missing six of his 21 attempts on the season.

At this point in the week I have Akers ranked as the fifth-best option, but keep an eye on Alex Smith’s progress. Thankfully the 49ers have a Monday night game, but if Smith fails to return from his concussion suffered last week, Akers won’t be an attractive option with Colin Kaepernick under center.

Greg Zuerlein owners had to be screaming at the end of the Rams'  overtime tie, as Zuerlein converted a 53-yard field goal with ease. The problem, a delay of game call on the offense negated the field goal and pushed them back five yards.

Zuerlein has plenty of leg to convert a 58-yard field goal, but this time he missed and his fantasy owners ended up with nothing at the end of the game.

Sean’s Week 11 Watch List

After two miserable performances by the Raiders defense, fantasy owners need to look at other options besides Seabastian Janikowski going forward. The veteran kicker still has a big leg, but his fantasy value continues to be depressed because he plays for a dysfunctional franchise.

If Dan Bailey is sitting on the waiver wire and you need a bye week play, pick him up. Playing against the Browns this week, the Cowboys should give Bailey plenty of opportunities to score, especially playing in Dallas.
