Fantasy Football Week 10: Struggling Players You Must Sit

Danny PassovoyNov 9, 2012

After a seven week hiatus, Fantasy Football Sit ‘Em is finally back with five struggling players you should consider benching in Week 10 of the 2012 NFL Season.

This week’s list highlights two quarterbacks, two running backs and a wide receiver who either face tough matchups or have been shut down over the last few weeks.

As always, please remember these are just suggestions and by no means should you start an unqualified player over these guys.

For example, Matt Schaub is featured in this bunch. In no way am I saying to start Matt Cassel in his place because I don’t believe Schaub will have a good week.

Just be smart, take these predictions into consideration and enjoy the show.

Michael Vick vs. Dallas

1 of 5

Bounce back game for Michael Vick against the Cowboys?

I don’t think so.

Not only is Michael Vick playing behind one of the most atrocious offensive lines in the NFL, but Dallas have been extremely efficient versus the pass this season.

According to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com, Michael Vick has been sacked 27 times and hit 71 times through eight games this season.

If you think that is bad, check out the stat ESPN Stats & Info has found.

“Entering Monday, {Vick} was under such pressure on 32.5 percent of his dropbacks, the highest rate in the NFL.”

Think about that for a second.

In the Eagles’ Monday Night Football game against the New Orleans Saints alone, Vick was sacked seven times and completed just 3/8 passes while under duress.

This week, Vick meets the Dallas Cowboys, who rank fifth in the NFL with just 206 passing yards allowed per game.

Expect Demarcus Ware to be in Michael Vick’s grill all game, and don’t expect high fantasy numbers for the Eagles quarterback this week.

Matt Schaub @ Chicago

2 of 5

This isn’t as much about Schaub as it is about the Chicago Bears’ defense.

Frankly, they are unreal.

In comparison to the one-of-a-kind 1985 Chicago Bears’ defense through eight games, the stats are eerily similar.

Points per game: 1985 Bears 14.3, 2012 Bears 15.0.

Yards per game allowed: 1985 Bears 305.6, 2012 Bears 318.1

Takeaways: 1985 Bears 29, 2012 Bears 28.

However, what separates this Bears team from their predecessors is their uncanny ability to get into the end zone.

Chicago’s defense has scored as many touchdowns (7) as they have allowed passing touchdowns.

If cornerback Charles Tillman does, in fact, play on Sunday like he says he will—wife is due to have a baby Monday—then Schaub will have a tough time putting up worthy fantasy numbers.

Jamaal Charles @ Pittsburgh

3 of 5

Whether it is his lack of action over the last three games or his matchup with Pittsburgh this weekend, Jamaal Charles is a definite no-go on Sunday.

Since Week 6, Charles has had basically no fantasy value.

In those three games, Charles has averaged 9.7 carries per game with 27.7 rushing yards and 0 touchdowns.

This week Kansas City travels to see a red-hot Steelers team that hasn’t allowed a running back to eclipse the century mark in their last five games.

Charles is the superstar on this offense, and it makes no sense why they don’t give him the ball more often.

However, until they do, I would hold off on starting him.

Fred Jackson @ New England

4 of 5

Between C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson this Sunday, I am siding with the young running back out of Clemson.

While neither is likely to have a huge fantasy day, the Bills will most likely go with Spiller for his big play ability.

New England also features one of the best run defenses in the NFL.

They have given up just three rushing touchdowns on the season and are allowing 3.5 yards per carry—best in the AFC.

Even though splitting carries has helped the Bills become the third-best rushing attack in the AFC, it has proven insufficient for Jackson’s fantasy value and it will once again this week.

DeSean Jackson vs. Dallas

5 of 5

DeSean Jackson has fallen victim to the problems of the Eagles’ offensive line as well.

As Michael Vick struggles to get anything going on offense, Jackson’s fantasy value continues to sink.

Each time the Long Beach, Ca. native has put together a notable performance this season—Weeka 2 and 4—it has been followed up by a lackluster statline—Weeks 3 and 5.

Regardless, Jackson is still the guy in Philadelphia, and he proved it in his 77-yard touchdown Monday night in which he completely embarrassed Saints' cornerback Patrick Robinson.

Jackson’s inconsistencies and the strength of the Cowboys’ secondary, however, will lead DeSean towards another down game in Week 10.
