NFL Week 10 Injury Report: Forecasting Impact on Fantasy Football

Ryan BothmannNov 7, 2012

Week 10 of the NFL season is already upon us, and the bumps and bruises that players have taken over the last nine weeks have certainly added up. As the playoff push continues in the world of fantasy football, you need to know whom to start and whom to sit.

Here is a look at five key injuries, and whether you should start or sit these players this week.

Danny Amendola

1 of 5

Danny Amendola was injured during Week 5 of the NFL season, during a Thursday night game between the Rams and the Cardinals. The injury was expected to sideline Amendola for a long period of time, that would maybe last until the final few weeks of the season, but the Rams receiver has recovered very quickly. In fact, Amendola is looking at making his return to the field this Sunday as the Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers.

So, is he a safe bet to start? I would say that if you are absolutely desperate at the wide receiver position then you should start Amendola, but if not then do not worry about it. Amendola will most likely play on Sunday, but since he is recovering from a shoulder injury, his playing time will be very limited. Another thing to consider is that the Rams are going up against the 49ers, a team that has an extremely stout pass defense.

Maurice Jones-Drew

2 of 5

The news in Jacksonville is that running back Maurice Jones-Drew will once again sit out due to a foot sprain that he suffered nearly a month ago. It is probably killing many fantasy owners who have MJD sitting on their bench, but he will need to stay their for at least another week and maybe even one more after that.

Jacksonville has hinted that Jones-Drew may be questionable for next week's game against Houston, but the organization is still a long way from officially determining that. For now, all we know is that Jones-Drew will miss a third straight game this week, as Jacksonville battles the Colts.

Owen Daniels

3 of 5

Owen Daniels has played through injuries all season long, but this one could be a little too much. Daniels missed practice on Wednesday and also had some tests done, which could indicate that he may not be ready to go against the Bears on Sunday night.

Daniels has been too important to Houston though, and too important to your fantasy team not to start. In Houston's last six games, Daniels has scored a touchdown in five of them. Unless we get absolute word by Friday that Daniels is out of the game, I fully expect him to suit up for Sunday's huge game between the Bears and the Texans.

Darren McFadden

4 of 5

Oakland running back Darren McFadden's injury is one of the biggest injuries that fantasy owners are looking at this season. McFadden did not practice on Wednesday, due to the fact that he suffered a high ankle sprain during the game last week against Tampa Bay.

Oakland is naturally still hopeful that McFadden will play on Sunday, but it is unlikely since high ankle sprains are sometimes very difficult to come back from. Fantasy owners who have McFadden should be looking at alternatives for backing up the Raiders star running back this week.

Calvin Johnson

5 of 5

Detroit's superstar receiver Calvin Johnson, a.k.a. Megatron, was once again held out of practice on Wednesday with a knee injury. It appears, though, that even if Johnson does not practice for the rest of the week, that he will still be good to go on Sunday.

Last week, Johnson missed all practices prior to the Lions showdown with the Jaguars. Despite his absence in practice, Johnson recorded six catches for 111 yards against Jacksonville, and put up a great performance for the Lions.

Expect more of the same this week. Keep Johnson in your lineup regardless of what any of the experts say. The only time you should change up and put him on the beach is if he is for sure listed out of the game on Sunday.
