0 of 5

A typical week in the world of football is not simply "typical week." With colorful figures gracing every aspect of the world game, football has evolved into a dynamic sport which encapsulates everything from conspiracies to controversies.

Football "memes" are in essence a means of expressing these conspiracies and controversies in a humorous manner so as to make light of a particular situation. The intended purpose of the memes posted in this weekly slideshow are to give a light-hearted take of the previous week in football.

In the week that was—goals, referees and acrobatics—check out your week in football memes.

Alessandro Del Piero Continues to Fire for Sydney FC

1 of 5

After moving to Sydney FC, Alessandro Del Piero has done more than just attract crowds to the A-League. The former Juventus captain has scored in his last three games for the Sky Blues, truly defining what it means for a striker "fire" upfront.

They Get It Right...Most of the Time

2 of 5

From Everton versus Liverpool to Catania versus Juventus and even Chelsea versus Manchester United in between, this week certainly was not a week for the referees. Regardless, we all need to sit back and realise what is done is done and that they get it right most of the time!

Tensions Boiling on the Sideline

3 of 5

Chelsea and United fans alike will certainly attest to the fact that they have had enough of each other in the last week. This sideline disagreement between Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Di Matteo was cleverly edited..."help." However, 14 goals in two games though is by no means punishment for the football fan. Bring on the reverse fixture!

Goals Galore

4 of 5

Never mind scoreless draws or "parking the bus," last week was a week bursting at the seams with goals. Between Reading versus Arsenal and Manchester United versus Chelsea, 21 goals were scored. Compound that with the 26 scored in the last English Premier League matchday and you will not want to miss the first half of any match ever again!

Pogba Prolific on and off the Field

5 of 5

Manchester United will certainly be licking its wounds after Paul Pogba netted yet again for Juventus in its 2-1 defeat of Bologna. Whilst the goal was late, dramatic and nicely taken, it was this acrobatic effort that has been doing the rounds on the web.
