Why Michael Crabtree Will Be A Ram
Despite being two inches too short, and undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his leg that will force him to relent the ability to work out for NFL Team., Michael Crabtree is still projected to break the top five. Many mock drafts have him going to the Seattle Seahawks with the No. 4 pick. With the Seahawks signing top free agent WR TJ Houshmandzadeh he has since started to trickle down the Raiders and Jaguars in more recent mock drafts.
Recently the Rams released All Pro and future Hall Of Famer Orlando Pace, an anchor to their Offensive line for over a decade and a piece of the "greatest show on turf" that won it all in 1999. Many tend to think that this means they will go T, which is a fair assumption, with two tackles who are projected to be gone by the fifth pick, in Jason Smith, and Eugene Monroe.
But once upon a time the Rams also just released All Pro Torry Holt, another vital piece of that "greatest show on turf" offense. They also released WR Drew Bennett, a free agent bust, at the beginning of free agency this year. The top receiver on the Rams roster is second year man Donnie Avery, who although is good with great upside, is no Torry Holt.
Drafting either would make sense and instantly upgrade an ailing offense. Drafting Monroe or Smith would help replace Pace, and pairing either with Jacob Bell and Jason Smith, who recently signed a 5 year 37.5 million dollar deal, would make that a formidable left side.
Pairing Crabtree with Avery could be a top duo in the making and with Steven Jackson in the backfield and a former pro bowler like Bulger, that has to be a tempting prospect to look at, considering they have there pick at virtually anyone since it is widely considered that Matt Stafford will be the first pick going to the baby blue losers.
