Amazombie has looked impressive in pre-race workouts at Santa Anita Park, and he has earned the right to be considered a front-runner at the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
After all, he did win the race at Churchill Downs last year. He won the honor of champion sprinter of the year in 2011, and the horse seems primed to shine in this race.
BloodHorse.com lists him as a 4-1 favorite. The horse's jockey is the legendary Mike Smith who was riding Amazombie when he captured win No. 5,000 in April.

Other contenders for the Breeders' Cup Sprint title are Coil at 5-1, That Lumber Guy and Jimmy Creed at 6-1. Coil won the 2012 Santa Anita Championship on October 6, so he will be a formidable challenger, and one to watch. Jimmy Creed finish third in that same race.
Both horses finished ahead of Amazombie on that day, as the Breeders' Cup favorite could only manage a fourth place finish.
It will be great to see these three horses battle, or even the emergence of an unlikely contender.
