With Sponsorship, Ricky Carmichael Could Run the Entire Truck Schedule
Kevin Harvick Inc. is looking for additional sponsorship for rookie Ricky Carmichael to run the entire season.
Originally, Carmichael was to run 14 races this season, with sponsorship from Monster Energy Drink. But with his success, that's now changed, at Atlanta last week the Harvick's paid out of pocket for him to race.
Now they are looking to add additional sponsorship for nine races.
"He's kind of sent us in a tailspin to be honest with you, because he's done so well," Harvick said during a stop at Lowe's Motor Speedway to promote the Sprint All-Star race. "We're kind of back pedaling. We've got [the next race at] Martinsville situated for him to race."
"We'll race three [KHI] trucks there at Martinsville. We're struggling to keep up with him from a sponsorship side, because we didn't really expect him to do everything that he's done".
After three races Carmichael, has finishes of 24th at Daytona, 8th at Fontana and 21st at Atlanta. He's been a big surprise with qualifying, his worst start was 15th at Atlanta and sits 14th in the series point standings.
Carmichael was running well at both Daytona and Atlanta, when unfortunately he got caught up in accidents not of his doing.
"I mean obviously Daytona he ran in the top five until he got in somebody else's mess," Harvick said. "He did really well at Atlanta, I thought that would be probably the hardest thing that he had to learn and we wanted to get that over with. He did well there and just got dumped and then got the truck tore up."
Carmichael's known as the Goat, for his exploits as a motocross star and it's been exciting watching him in the Truck series.
He's adapting well to the trucks, qualifying well, and has just taken well to the learning curve in racing in NASCAR on four wheels vs. the two wheels he's used too.
Currently he is second in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings. Should the team secure sponsorship for him, we'll see him challenge and maybe even win the rookie of the year title.
I'm impressed with what I've seen from him so far, and he's going to be a great addition to NASCAR.
Sure he's going to learn alot about racing just from being around Happy, Delana, Horn, Ren, and Mr. Wilburn.
