Eve: 15 Most Monumental Moments of the WWE Divas Champion's Career
First and foremost, I'd like to apologize for not posting my weekly Raw review this past Tuesday here on Bleacher Report due to losing power during Hurricane Sandy. However, I've since regained power and am ready to resume writing. I hope anyone else affected by Hurricane Sandy is also safe and sound.
Five years ago this week, Eve Torres was officially welcomed to the WWE after winning the 2007 WWE Diva Search. In doing so, she became an official member of the WWE roster as a newly contracted Diva.
Fast forward five years later, Eve is now the current reigning WWE Divas Champion. Her journey from Diva Search contestant to three-time Divas Champion has been a memorable one indeed, as her illustrious career up to this point has not only been very well built, but also allows other aspiring Divas to follow in her footsteps.
In light of this special anniversary, I'll highlight the top 15 moments in the WWE career of the manipulative Diva over the course of the last five years. One can only assume that these moments are only the beginning of Eve's tenure going forward.
Winning the 2007 Diva Search
1 of 15Debuting in 2004, WWE's Diva Search was a competition that was on the hunt for the next breakout WWE Diva. In a style similar to Tough Enough, the participants exhibited their talents, and their introduction videos were shown each week on Raw and WWE.com.
On October 29, 2007, contestant Eve Torres was named the victor of the competition. As of now, Eve is the last remaining contestant to still be employed by WWE, as both Lena Yada and Taryn Terrell have since left the organization.
Also, this would be the final season of WWE Diva Search, as it would be cancelled shortly thereafter.
In-Ring Debut on Raw's 800th Episode
2 of 15Following her Diva Search victory, Eve was sent down to WWE's developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling for further training as an in-ring competitor. She later made her official WWE debut on the Feb. 1, 2008 edition of Friday Night SmackDown as a backstage interviewer.
Later that year, Eve made her first in-ring appearance a part of a multi-Diva tag team match on the historic 800th edition of Monday Night Raw. Despite never being tagged in, her team came up short of scoring the win.
First Singles Match Against Michelle McCool
3 of 15Aside from that one-off in-ring appearance on Raw's 800th episode, Eve was mainly utilized as a backstage interviewer for the SmackDown brand. However, she slowly transitioned into an in-ring competitor at the start of 2009 after being attacked by Michelle McCool from behind.
On the Feb. 6 edition of SmackDown, Eve competed in her first official singles match in WWE against then-Divas Champion Michelle McCool, but was unsuccessful. Despite the loss, Eve would continue to feud with McCool in subsequent months and officially become an active in-ring competitor from that point forward.
WrestleMania 25 Debut
4 of 15Of course, every aspiring WWE Superstar's dream is to one day be featured at a WrestleMania event. In April 2009, Eve was able to cross that major achievement off her bucket list as she participated in the inaugural (and only) Miss WrestleMania battle royal.
Unfortunately, Eve came up short of being crowned the queen of the Divas, but it would be her first of many appearances on the grandest stage of them all.
Burying the Hatchet with Layla
5 of 15Once her rivalry with Michelle McCool concluded, Eve began to feud with fellow WWE Diva Search winner Layla in the spring season of 2009. Not only would the two trade victories inside the ring, but they'd also be involved in numerous competitions and engage in backstage brawls as well.
On the June 18 edition of WWE Superstars, the two heated rivals met for a one-on-one match once again, but with Maria serving as the special guest referee this time around. Following Eve's victory over the former Extreme Expose member, the two would shake hands in a mutual sign of respect.
Winning the WrestleMania 26 Rematch
6 of 15Speaking of such, Eve was also scheduled to compete at WrestleMania 26 a part of a massive five-on-five Diva tag team match that was announced by WWE.com at the last possible minute. Nonetheless, they did well with the time they were given, but Eve was once again on the short end of the stick that night.
However, the mayhem didn't there, as a WrestleMania rematch was held the next night on Raw, where Eve would pin then-Divas Champion Maryse within a matter of seconds to score the victory for her team. This win would signal the start of a feud between Eve and Maryse that would last for a number of months in 2010.
Winning the Dress to Impress Battle Royal
7 of 15Despite pinning then-Divas Champion Maryse the week previous on Raw, Eve was still forced to earn a shot at the Divas title by competing in a match to determine the rightful No. 1 contender.
Since David Otunga was that night's guest host, he ordered for the No. 1 contender's match to held under Dress to Impress rules, which meant each Diva would have to wear a dress of some sort while competing.
In what was one of Eve's steamier moments, the 2007 Diva Search winner lastly eliminated Jillian to solidify her place as the No. 1 contender to the Divas Championship. This victory would earn her a shot at Maryse's title the next week on Raw, which leads into our next moment...
Winning Her First Divas Championship
8 of 15After her victory in the Dress to Impress battle royal the previous week, Eve was granted her rightful shot at the Divas Championship the following week on Raw in England. Up to this point, Eve was never involved in a title match before in her career, so the pressure was certainly on.
Live in front of an electric England crowd, Eve won her first Divas Championship by defeating Maryse that night, becoming the first Diva Search winner in history to capture that title. She'd embark on a two-month reign as champ before dropping the strap to Alicia Fox at the Fatal 4 Way pay-per-view.
Winning Her Second Divas Championship
9 of 15Following her title loss that July, Eve was left without direction for the remainder of 2010. She joined forces with R-Truth in the fall, but her dancing style did not at all match Truth's singing abilities.
After they parted ways, Eve was announced as a surprise participant in the Divas Championship match at 2011's Royal Rumble event that also involved Michelle McCool, Layla and then-Divas Champion Natalya.
Shockingly enough, Eve was able to score the pinfall and win her second Divas Championship in the process.
Winning the Divas Halloween Battle Royal
10 of 15Aside from this year, WWE has hosted a Divas costume contest in some form each year in light of the Halloween holiday. Usually, the costume contest culminates in a multi-Divas battle royal, where the winner normally earns some sort of prize.
Since Halloween just so happened to fall on a Monday last year, a Divas battle royal was held on Raw that night, where the winner would be named the new No. 1 contender to Beth Phoenix's Divas Championship.
Dressed in her very attractive Robin suit, Eve emerged victorious, thus earning a title rematch against Phoenix at the Survivor Series pay-per-view.
Turning Heel
11 of 15After failing to recapture the Divas Championship on many occasions, Eve instead shifted to Zack Ryder, who was quickly catching steam on the Raw roster. After winning the United States Championship at WWE TLC in December, Ryder attempted to ask Eve out on a date, but was ultimately turned down each time.
Nonetheless, that didn't stop Ryder from trying to chase his dream girl. Due to Ryder's association with John Cena, he was ambushed by Kane multiple times during the course of January, where Eve showed more sympathy and affection for the Long Island Iced Z than ever before.
However, on the Feb. 13 edition of Raw, Eve locked lips with Cena after he saved her from Kane as a disabled Ryder looked on from his wheelchair.
The following week, Eve showed her true colors by revealing to the Bella Twins backstage that she had been planning on using Zack Ryder the entire time, turning heel for the first time in her career in the process.
This would start a line of "hoeski" chants that were heard throughout WWE arenas in subsequent weeks, as created by Ryder himself.
Backstabbing Zack Ryder at WrestleMania 28
12 of 15Despite what Eve said in front of the millions of people watching Raw live that late February night, Zack Ryder eventually forgave his former friend after she locked lips with him a few weeks later. Eve was luring Ryder right into her trap, and he was completely oblivious to her devious scheme.
At WrestleMania 28, Ryder was set to take part in the multi-man tag team match, where he'd be leading Team Teddy against Team Johnny. Eve stood in Ryder's corner during the course of the contest, but intentionally cost him the victory when she caused a distraction at ringside.
Following the bout, Eve went to console Ryder, only to deliver a blow straight to his nether regions. Ryder's career would never be the same after that night, whereas Eve's rise to the top was just beginning.
Becoming the Executive Administrator to John Laurinaitis
13 of 15Since her betrayal of Zack Ryder gave Team Johnny the victory at WrestleMania 28, Eve was immediately in the good graces with Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis.
The two had several secret meetings over the course of April, and it was eventually revealed that Eve was named Johnny's new Executive Administrator.
Sure, Eve was no longer an active in-ring competitor, but at least we were able to see her rock the sexy business suit on a weekly basis. She garnered a large amount of heat just to being associating with Laurinaitis, which saw her appear on both Raw and SmackDown regularly.
Once John Laurinaitis was removed from power in mid-June, Eve disappeared from television altogether, and her role on Raw was not made known until her return a month later.
Becoming the SmackDown Assistant General Manager
14 of 15Upon her return on the July 9 edition of Raw, Eve resumed her role in the Divas division, but it wasn't long before her hunger for power came knocking once again.
After being named the new SmackDown General Manager this past August, Booker T was in need of a new assistant, a position that both Eve and Kaitlyn clamored for.
The two lovely ladies fought for the position on the Aug. 17 edition of SmackDown, where Eve defeated the former NXT Rookie to claim the position.
She'd use her power to take advantage of Booker T in more ways than both, while also trying to trick the entire WWE Universe into thinking that she had turned a new leaf.
Winning Her Third Divas Championship
15 of 15As previously stated, Eve attempted to manipulate Booker T into thinking that she had turned a new leaf and was using her power for good, when instead she was planning to use her power to claim what was rightfully hers: the Divas Championship.
After failing to become the No. 1 contender to the Divas title, she engineered Aksana's attack on Kaitlyn from behind at the Night of Champions event. In doing so, she was granted the opportunity to take Kaitlyn's place in the match by Booker T due to recent good behavior.
At the event, she soundly defeated Layla to win her third Divas Championship, breaking Maryse's record of holding the title the most times. To this day, Eve still reigns as champ and is currently embroiled in a feud with Kaitlyn and Layla, both of whom she defeated at Hell in a Cell to maintain possession of her strap.
At the young age of 28, Eve has had quite the transformation since her debut and has surely made a name for herself only five years into her WWE career. With the number of active women wrestlers in WWE quickly dwindling, Eve looks to resurrect the dying division, as her current character is one of the most compelling personas we've seen from the Divas in years.
Thanks for reading, Bleachers, and make sure to drop a comment with your thoughts on the illustrious career of Eve Torres so far, as well as predictions for the future of the Stars and Stripes winner. As always, your overall feedback and criticism is welcomed and greatly appreciated.
