New York Yankees' Spring Training: Game 17 Grades

Sean SerritellaMar 14, 2009

The New York Yankees beat the Houston Astros by a score of 3-1. I watched A.J. Burnett throw fire.

A+—A.J. Burnett

I wasn't sure how good Burnett was but he's pretty good. He pitched a perfect 4 innings and had 3 strikeouts. After every batter got in the batter's box I was confident that Burnett would get them out.

B—Johnny Damon

He hit a home run bomb in the first inning to get the Yankees going. After that he struck out twice.

B—Cody Ransom

He struck out twice as well but he had 2 hits and a run scored in 4 at bats.

C—Dan Giese

Even though he gave up a home run it was with no one on base and he pitched 2 solid innings. He struck out 3 batters and gave up 2 hits.

C-—Brett Gardner

Another batter that struck out twice. I was a little disturbed at the fact that Gardner saw about 15 pitches thrown to Damon, Nady and Matsui and didn't steal second base. I forgot what inning it was but you'd think that after seeing so many pitches from the pitcher, you'd have his number and swipe second. He went 1 for 3.

There was a ball hit over his head that I thought he could of caught but Gardner didn't want to hit the wall.

F—Xavier Nady

He went 0 for 3 with a strike out lowering his spring average to .200. We all know that spring is not a good indicator of how some one will do in the regular season as from what we saw from Robinson Cano last year.

Player Of The Game
: A.J. Burnett

What an awesome performance. He had a perfect game going! The Houston Astro lineup looked lost against Burnett. I hope he exceeds my expectations this year because I expected nothing really outstanding from him.

I was going to grade the other game but I have a massive headache.
