NFL Pigskin Preview Week 9: Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints

Josh Zerkle@JoshZerkleChief Writer IIIOctober 30, 2012

The Philadelphia Eagles are sliding out of playoff contention, while the New Orleans Saints seem to be stuck in a skid of their own. Two of the league's stronger franchises in recent years will square off, offering the winner a chance to return to relevancy.

Philadelphia (3-4) can trace its struggles back to that of its quarterback, Michael Vick. With more multiple-turnover games than any Eagles fan would care to count, Vick has been a liability to his team's success. Even if the Eagles were to sit Vick to make room for Nick Foles now, the morale of the rest of the team arguably has been sucked out of the locker room already.

New Orleans (2-5) still has Drew Brees...and that's about it. Although the Saints' player suspensions from the so-called "Bountygate" scandal have been stayed pending appeal, head coach Sean Payton is still watching from home. Brees and the offense are still clicking, especially at home, but the defense has been woeful.
