NFL Trade Deadline: 3 Players Who Should Be Dealt

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

Typically, we don't see much action at the NFL trade deadline, but that doesn't mean a few players shouldn't be traded.

Rumors have been flying about a number of potential trade candidates, and ultimately it could be a quiet Thursday, but the following three stars should be traded to a new team.

It's that simple.

Dwayne Bowe

By now, you've seen the tweet from Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that stated Bowe wants out of Kansas City.

That was posted on October 17, and since then, there hasn't be much news on this trade front, even after Kansas City was handled at home against the Oakland Raiders in Week 8.

The Chiefs are 1-6, and have the worst quarterback situation in the NFL.

With a regime change potentially on the horizon, now's the time to trade Bowe and receive a draft pick in exchange before he bolts in the offseason for nothing.

Teams like the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams seem to make the most sense.

DeAngelo Williams

Williams has been phased out in the backfield by the more talented and productive Jonathan Stewart, and the Panthers are on the hook for $4.75 million in base salary and an $8.2 million cap hit in 2013 after extending him in July of 2011.

If Carolina can man up to its mistake, they'd be much better off ridding themselves of Stewart's huge deal and using that saved capital to spend as they continue to build the club around Cam Newton.

Although The Charlotte Observer suggests that there are no plans to trade Williams, this was written in a recent column: "a team source told the Observer that at least one playoff-contending team has reached out to the Panthers about possibly trading for the back."

Rotoworld.com wrote "the Panthers would likely also love to shed Williams' contract," as well.

Though it appears that nothing is imminent, Carolina should consider moving their backup runner.

Steven Jackson

Jackson is 29, has over 2,200 carries, and the Rams aren't near contender status.

It's time for St. Louis to make a move.

Sure, they already have an abundance of high-round picks thanks to the Robert Griffin III trade, but wouldn't adding another one help the organization that's clearly in the midst of reconstruction?

According to ESPN's John Clayton, there is "no action right now" in regards to Jackson, but Adam Schefter did report that the team was fielding legitimate offers for the runner (via Rotoworld).

If the future is the priority in St. Louis, Jackson should be traded before Thursday's deadline.
