Bernie Williams Having Tough Time On and Off Diamond
Bernie Williams has appeared in three games with team Puerto Rico during the latest World Baseball Classic and has zero hits in four at bats to go with a pair of walks.
He was also thrown out at the plate during a 3-1 victory over the Netherlands.
Things aren’t exactly going as planned for Bernie on the field and now things aren’t going so well for him off the field as well.
A woman in Puerto Rico has filed a complaint against Bernie claiming that he hit her while she was taking a picture of him at a night club.
According to officer Angel Nazario at around 2:30 A.M. Thursday night, Bernie took the camera from the woman, damaged it and then hit her in the face.
While police investigate this claim, Bernie’s manager Steve Fortunato released this statement:
"“Yesterday evening we learned of the filing of a complaint against Mr. Bernie Williams. The news has taken us all by surprise. On the night in question, Mr. Williams had gone out after accepting an invitation to be a guest performer with a local music act.
"Mr. Williams denies any wrongdoing and we feel that some published media reports today are inaccurate. At this time, Mr. Williams has been advised by his legal counsel, José M. Marxuach, to not make any further comments, inasmuch as we do not want to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
"We want to assure everyone that Mr. Williams will fully cooperate with the local authorities to have this matter clarified as soon as possible.”
"
Over the years we’ve seen nothing to indicate this type of behavior from Bernie so it’s a little surprising. He isn’t used to playing baseball this poorly so maybe it’s getting to him a little bit.
Also, this certainly can’t be helping album sales. Maybe he thought he needed a little more street cred.
