Which Match at WrestleMania XXV Should Be "Dark"?

I know, I know, another WrestleMania XXV article. This one considers something slightly different, something I'm pretty sure nobody has discussed yet. Enjoy...

For the past few years there have been dark matches during WrestleMania, and I have been wondering if there will be one this year. If so, which?

For anyone who doesn’t know what a dark match is, it is a matched filmed during the show but not broadcast. Although in previous years highlights have usually been shown during the pay per view.

Here is a list of previous dark matches at WrestleMania:

2002 - (Heat) Rikishi, Scotty 2 Hotty and Albert def. Mr Perfect, Lance Storm and Test

2003 - (Heat) Lance Storm and Chief Morley def Kane and Rob Van Dam

2004 - N/A

2005 - Booker T won a battle royal

2006 - Viscera won an 18 man battle royal

2007 - Ric Flair and Carlito def. Gregory Helms and Chavo Guerrero in a tag team lumberjack match

2008 - Kane won a 24-man battle royal

The perceptive amount you will notice that all of these matches are battle royals or tag team matches, so will the trend continue this year?

There are some matches that simply won’t be dark, for example; both world title matches, Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels, Hardy vs. Hardy, Money in the Bank, and Jericho vs. a Legend. I don’t think many would disagree with those choices.

So out of the others matches, won’t be shown live?

ECW Title Match: Swagger vs. ?

I think if Jack Swagger were to face anyone it would be Evan Bourne. At his first WrestleMania it would be a shame for Evan Bourne’s match not to be shown, and I think this one would not be dark.

If Swagger faces someone else it could very easily not be shown. Swagger has risen quickly to the top of his brand, but there are not many other opponents that could make this interesting.

Intercontinental Championship Match: JBL vs. ?

JBL appears to be retiring soon, or at least that is what this ‘big announcement’ seems to be. Even if this is not a match, something supposedly this big would not be shown off-air, and I can’t see this not being broadcast.

Tag Team Match (Possibly for Both Championships)

The Dirt Sheet vs. Colon rivalry has been building for a while, and it seems as if the WWE will merge their titles at WrestleMania XXV. The tag match seems to be one of the most documented dark matches, so will it be this year?

Whether or not other tag teams are involved I think this could be quite a momentous moment, and I would like to see this live in the pay per view. Let alone for the fact it will probably be the only tag team match on the night.

Diva Battle Royal

The divas have been lumbered with the other most probably candidate for the dark slot, but the one advantage they have is that a divas match has in recent history always been live.

The divas usually get a pretty unfair deal when it comes to WrestleMania, being put into pillow fights and bunny matches. The battle royal doesn’t allow any of the divas too much of the spotlight, so it would be a shame to give them none at all.

Honestly, I have no idea which way the WWE are going to go with this, and I’m sure none of the wrestlers involved in these matches want theirs to be dark.

If all end up getting shown, we could get a match similar to the ECW Championship match last year. I really wouldn’t want this to happen, but I can’t say I would know which to pick to be dark out of these.
